Asus XONAR DX and FEAR 1.

Might be worth a look on Asus's support forums: here http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx...78&board_id=21&model=Xonar DX&page=1&count=78

When I was using a Xonar D2 I experienced problems enabling EAX higher than 2 on a few older games:
* Rome and Medieval II: Total War
* Thief: Deadly Shadows

If it helps, I would generally prefer EAX2 with Dolby Headphone than EAX5 without when using headphones.

Having said that, I did move to an X-Fi (Prelude - but a Titanium would do the job) with an external Dolby Headphone processor (SU-DH1) for a reason. It's an improvement over Xonar for gaming but not really enough to justify the expense IMO.

Hope this doesn't throw too much of a spanner in the works :)

Edit: The bad news is that you will find just as many people with problems on Creative's support forums. Drivers don't really seem to be Creative or Asus's forte.

The thread started in 2008. The last post was July 2009. The last official Asus driver update for the DX was June 2009. Not sure about betas

Some of the issues in the early thread have been fixed. Quite a few remain unresolved.

Such is life!

Im playing back through it now with a DX, EAX 2.0 works fine, but the EAX Advanced HD is greyed out, and can't enable the HW mixing (as i get missing sounds with that), and thats on the final v1.08 patch for the game, and im using the Vista 64 beta 1764 DX drivers in Windass 7 RC.
