At my whits end - Cool & Quiet is stuck on!

Hi,

Ahh I didn't realise many people had issues with the boards, sorry for my possibly useless posts :( Good luck with resolving this!

No Post is useless when trying to help diagnose a problem.

Have you got the ASUS EPU programme hiding away somewhere in your machine?

Those CPUZ figures are exactly what it sets it to in the power saving mode.

That was my thought as well when i first got this board but a search through the system turned up nothing. When trying differrent versions of windows i even went to the trouble of using kill disk's wipeing system to make sure there were no remnats left on the drive at all. So i ruled that out as causing it

Another thought i had was maybie there was an issue with either the northbridge/southbridge chip on the board and thought maybie swapping it for another one from a borked motherboard. However i was not able to find out which of the chips on the motherboard controlled the bus speed and multiplier so have bought another known working one.

I would still like to workout what is wrong with the current board and try and sort it so i can maybie get some of my wasted money back.

m8 havew you got amd overdrive by any chance?? theres an button to put it on like a low mode.

where red arrow is.

Looking at Shad's OP he does seem to be using AMD Overdrive so that might solve his problem with a little luck. Hopefully an oversight on his part could get his board running properly.

As for me i never installed AMD overdrive to clock the cpu within windows, but i did install it at one point to see if it would report a different speed value than windows or CPUiD.
As far i remember i did not have it running in low profile mode within AMD Overdrive. In saying that i did completely wipe the system and install a different O/S without AMD Overdrive installed and still have the issue currently. So for me it will not solve the problembut as i said before it may hopefully solve the OP problem

I only installed Overdrive as an effort to try and manually speed the processor up, which didn't work. I also tried that little green button with and without the red circle around it (awful UI, I had no idea what the button was doing).

I ended up buying a Crosshair IV Formula board as a replacement, which has solved the problem :p

Nice! I haven't tried clocking this 965 yet, my cooler isn't really up to the job. A bit off-topic, but if anyone knows where I can buy a Xigmatek Aegir cooler I'd love to know. None of Xigmatek's UK retailers list it.

All I can say is cool (pun intended), glad to see you guys fixed it, my I7 is at 3 Ghz after 2 mins in Bios :).

I never managed to get my AMD chips to clock stably, my socket 754 and AM2's both crashed Windows....

So hats off to you guys making it work. Doubt I will reach 4 Ghz...

Cheers

Von
