At the risk of doing a Mikehiow...

Fully comprehensive cover for myself and accompanied test drives, maximum covered repairs to vehicle of £10,000 (i.e. I shouldn't drive anything more expensive than 10k if I want it fully covered for damage but I can if I want), fleet value of £50,000 and 'main' vehicle cover (i.e. one I use on a regular basis) included.

It also covers American imports as well as classics (basically any car) and allows me to drive modified cars, although if they're heavily modified I do have to discuss it with them beforehand so they can take the details :)

Not overtly expensive to increase that fleet value to £15 or 20k either.

Couple of questions mate, as that sounds as though i need to switch really...

1) Who are you with?
2) Do you have any form of restrictions on the vehicles bar the values mentioned?
3) What is your premium (ballpark)?

No worries, always a pleasure!

2) No - effectively I can drive anything (modern/old/import). I can drive anything outside that value too but I won't be covered for damage in excess of the mentioned figures. They don't mind minor modifications either but as mentioned if it's heavily modified (i.e. bodykitted, different engine, etc) then they require notification and I guess, although I've never come across it, there might be instances where they wouldn't be able to cover or would have to enforce a small cover premium for it.

3) Under £1500.

They're a brilliant company - very personal, easy to deal with and more than happy to discuss exactly what you need, for example they negated the cost of certain options on the policy that I didn't require, and allowed me to fit in other things I did need.

When I applied the owner (Peter D James) rang me back to see if everything was satisfactory and to discuss any questions or issues I had! :)

Mine is 4k with no restrictions cap on power it seems and a higher value of total stock from Swinton, still havent got the paperwork but thats the bottom line.

Sounds similar to Lashout but with higher values.

TBH i dont think i would need much more than lashout has, i am never likely to have more than £50k's worth of cars at any one time. Only thing i would want is a slightly larger vehicle repair figure, perhaps £20k on that would cover most things i am likely to buy.

Sounds superb...

Only one more question, is there a mileage (usage) limitation of any sort?

Do you know, I can't recall. I don't think it made much difference to the cost of the policy on the grand scheme of things, at inception - from what I recall I think I'm down for something like 12k PA.

Yea, I was remarkably suprised too - when I rang around I got a fair few quotes in a similar range but none offered the 'drive anything' kind of capability that I needed. I did do a bit of a double take when they came back with a figure....

This was the problem i had last time i looked into it, everywhere wanted to cap the engine capacities to pretty low levels. Not good when most of the cars i am likely to own for our personal use have a V8 in them :p

Exactly :p All the others were just like "engines over two litres? Are you serious?" and "no, can't do sports cars or imports", whereas PJ just went "...Excellent. Will you be driving anything with a non-standard engine as well?" :D

Definitely have to review my needs when my current policies run out, and work out the best way forward from there. I had previously discounted a trade policy for my usage as they simply seemed too restrictive, instead opting for several normal policies. Your figures above certainly bring it back into thought :)

I flirt with the idea of a change of car all the time but until I can afford something considerably better and have settled on a car (or most likely keep coming back to the same car as I did with the Octavia) then I know I am best off simply riding it out.

In your position buying a new car sounds pretty pointless as it will most likely end up in the usual "Bought an ________ it is awesome" followed by getting shot of it in a few months time.

How old are you Lashout? I'm only a baby at 19 so I'm got no chance even though I'd only be interested in a road risk only policy (I wouldn't claim on theft anyway).

I have heard that a few years ago it was far easier to sort something out, but a few idiots of a similar sort of age as me decided that it'd be the ideal way of driving souped up cars that they'd not have a hope in hell insuring correctly. Of course they kept on crashing and as such they either won't quote you, or impose tiny engine restrictions. I do believe that I'm on the work policy during working hours, but that's for 1.6 cars - Given the smallest commonly available engine we have is a 4.4 it isn't much help! :D

Shame "previous experience" isn't counted for as I've got more a bit more experience with quick cars that one would expect given my age. I'm Far from an expert, but It's not like I'm coming from driving 1.25 Fiestas, is it?

When I do look at trading properly I'll almost certainly buy a tow car + trailer/recovery truck and collect cars that way, as I doubt a trade policy with the cover that I want (I.E zero restrictions other than value) is going to happen much before I'm 25.

Oh, decided that the Soarer is saying, but I'll be bidding farewell to my (t)rusty 205 GTI instead :).
