At what point do you say GPU's are too expensive and refuse to buy?

I'm still happy with this 4080 Super FE, which has the same cooler as the 4090 FE, subsequently massively overengineered on a 4080 chip.

Love this card, was pleased with how underwhelming the 5000 series was for 4000 series owners so I could keep this one and have little to no FOMO. Not mentioning not having to spend this time around..

Yeah got the Gigabyte Gaming OC 4080 Super myself which has the same cooler as the 4090 variant, don't feel the need for the 5000 series.

With such a poor 5000 release from Nvidia, if I had a 4080/4080S, I'd certainly be hanging on to it; about the same in raster as a 7900XTX and miles better in RT, if that's your thing.
In fact, if I wasn't almost 100% dead set on picking up a 9070XT, I'd most likely be on the lookout for a second-hand or B-grade 4080/S or 4070Ti S.

Yeh. Other than the 5090, nothing has been released that is much better than a 4080/4080 super.

The 5080 is only about 10-15% faster.

The stagnation in the low end is real as a year and 6 months after buying my 3060ti it still sells for the same amount as I was looking at maybe a 4070 but thats not really moved in price also.

Guess its going to take a 5060/5060ti/9600/9600XT to maybe start pushing pricing downwards.

Just bought a 9070XT for my sons to game at 1440 at max settings (space marine 2 and getting 150 FPS) - and a 9070 PURE for my daughter (same games). Dont need anything more expensive than this. My family's graphics cards lasted at least 5 yrs.

So for many years into the future my maximum spend on a graphics card will be £650

Just spotted a 5070ti at msrp elsewhere- and plentiful- I suspect 9070s will drop their scalped prices now.

As suspected Nvidia may start to flood the market which will be of benefit to consumers.

Still £729 for a 60 class card is a bit much….
Mine arrived today, couldn't resist having a comparison between it and my Palit gamingpro. Physically it's smaller and it's a little louder but it's certainly not a bad card I would have been quite happy with it had it arrived first. It's actually a bit faster out of the box and a slightly better clocker than my Palit. That said I'll be keeping the palit as I've used it a little bit more so wouldn't feel right returning it to OCUK

Would this be the preorder on the river place that is out of stock? Your definition of plentiful is woefully below mine :)

Sorry but limited stock preorders with one month lead time is not remotely plentiful in my opinion. And yes, I agree the situation is only better for 9070 XT prices because Nvidia has set such a low bar for stock availability.

IMHO this isn’t Nvidia flooding* the market. This is the market reacting to consumer demand and more to the point, that AMD have decent supply drops. So AMD pricing stabilised a bit after initial demand because supply kept improving. Nobody was going to pay £850 - £950 for a 5070Ti when a 9070 XT could be had for £630 - £700.

The very highly scalped 5070Tis and 5080s were not selling well, so retailers dropped the prices… Nvidia has nothing to do with it.

* Nvidia may have slightly increased from a drip to a trickle. But not remotely a flood.

Yes sometimes trickling streams feel like floods in a desert landscape!

But I agree not really a ramping up of stock tbh.

I think we won’t see a £569 msrp again for the 9070XT, £619 looks like the floor from recent sales elsewhere.

Got myself a 9070XT Pulse from elsewhere for £619 which I’m happy with due to arrive today!

Just been checking around the web on in stock GPU prices and 5080 prices have come down a few hundred quid.

One thing that stuck in my mind over the past few months, was the utterly bizarre situation where a fair few posters were saying “what choice do we have”? This was in relation to buying highly scalped 5080s at around £1400.

There were always choices.

Yes they may well fall to below £600 but it’s not going to be until next year I reckon.

I’m not sure they’re actively rebating retailers anymore?

Hope you have enjoyed the Pulse- will look at various postings to decide best settings etc!

I doubt they are and if they are the retailers are still gouging.

Very happy with the Pulse. Got it at -45mV 2700 fast timings and -17% on the PL. Stock speed for 250w. This is my lowest common denominator with a few games but most others will happily run at -80mV.

I have been toying with the idea of setting a global undervolt of -70mV and just using the more conservative UV as a profile for the problem games. But ultimately I noted about 1-2 FPS difference between -80mV and -45mV.

What people lose sight of is it trades blows with Nvidia’s next tier up for almost £200 less.

Get Optiscaler and enjoy FSR4 in almost every game that has DLSS. Set it to balanced and enjoy.

I think what sold it for me this time was Optiscaler and FSR4 and improved RT performance (56% better than an 7800XT according to Daniel Owen YouTuber).

I heard the 9070XTs can be overclocked to be between a 5070ti and a 5080 in raw rasterisation? If correct then they are bargains saving £100-300!

Also with Trump tariffs things worldwide might have price increases as Apple have already stated their supply chain costs will go up 46% and will increase their prices worldwide not just the US.

To all the folks who've said that GPU pricing and shenanigans have just put them off PC gaming and will switch to console gaming instead...
Have you folks all seen what's going on with Nintendo Switch 2?

These sorts of issues just seem to be everywhere, there is no escape from the corporate greed it seems.

Here's hoping that AMD's 9060(XT) ends up being decent and actually having MSRP stock, no point hoping for anything good from Nvidia GPUs at this point for the 5060(ti).
While not ideal, in this market we'd be lucky to get 7800XT performance for £350 form these cheaper GPUs.

I used to use DLSS mods to upgrade DLSS and when Nvidia added the option to do this through their third part app, it made it the same but different. The same method busing a 3rd party app but more official and just slicker.

The ability to do this direct from AMD adrenaline is even more slick than having separate apps. Just AMD need to get a team working on getting all FSR3 games to run with FSR4 through drivers. For example KCD2 is marked as FSR4 coming soon since 9070 launch. Get a bloody move on AMD, keep the momentum going.

With Adrenaline we get the driver control panel, gaming profiles, overclocking/tuning, performance overlay and even CPU overclocking/tuning all in one application.

For Nvidia I need to install drivers, Nvidia app, 3rd party tuning software, and CPU tuning all as separate apps.

Thr biggest hurdle though is pricing. AMD really did well overall but could have been better. Let’s hope they keep that pricing momentum going. Because it’s obvious the 9070 and 9070 XT pricing has been disruptive to Nvidia’s plans to keep pushing the prices up. Paying more for less needs to die. AMD hopefully got that message and will not forget.
