ATI 3870 vs nVidia 8800GT Comparison Table

In real world gaming the GT will provide a much smoother gameplay experience with less slowdowns when compared to a 3870. I had the 2900XT before my GT, the games i play on the GT are just so much smoother and is a more satisfying game play experience, BF2 my most played game ever was not so smooth with 4XAA on the 2900, on the GT it runs like silk, same for timeshift, COD4 and so on.:D

dont forget there's over 100 game titles in development using the Unreal 3 engine (see bioshock & Unreal tournament 3)

crysis is a crap game, it has to be compromised to be playable on any hardware.

sorry but crysis can blow the big one, all the promises of mid-end hardware being able to play in all it's glory ....over hyped.

the devs were saying that from the start - it's pretty bad when even £900 of the latest gpu grunt turns into a slideshow.

*rant over* :)

No, they said even the 8800 GTX wouldn't be able to play it at full settings... Following a similar tradition to Far Cry where generations of hardware will be able to play higher quality settings further down the line. They said midrange hardware would be playable, no doubt, in 'all its glory' (assuming you mean full/high settings) they did not.

they most certainly did not. the crysis engine was designed to scale. just like any other major engine release, its not playable on any hardware today when its cranked right up.

I was under the impression that it wouldn't be playable at highest settings. I remember Doom3 on my 9800NP. and also Farcry on whatever card I had at the time.

Would you rather they released the game with High settings as the max settings and then released Crysis2 in 1 years time with a few more levels, ultra high graphics but the same engine? and charged another £30? Kind of EA or football game style. :)

I would say even High graphics is better than all games out so just pretend ultra doesn't exist.

One of the key selling points for me for the ATI is the quiet fan, and an exhaust that gets all that lovely hot air out of the case. I wasn't prepared to wait for the passive / exhaust model 8800GTs to arrive, let alone the standard models.

It's not all about extreme performance you know :)

it's just a shame that you have to compromise the game in order to play it is all, who cares in 1 year from now if you can turn the details up ....the thrill is long gone by then.

how many games will use the engine? nobody used the cryengine except ubisoft with farcry from memory

i thought it would be a bit more playable at the high resolutions than it currently is, i'd be slightly miffed if i had bought 2 ultras expecting it to smash through the game ....especially now they're worth probably half the price in the space of a few weeks.

You have to remember even 2 ultras are old technology these days. Maybe if ati had put up a better fight at the top end cards that could play crisis well would be released or nearing release. All is not lost though ati seem to be fairing better now than they were so maybe this will speed things up.
