ATI 4890 cutting out in games

Random crashing and only when gaming, it will blue screen or just get grey and orange stripes on the screen iv altered my air flow a little and its been behaving a lot better also cleaned the dust off it as u mentioned but still get the odd crash, also the PSU has a dial type thing on the back u can turn up or down aint got a clue what that does but its always been on full u got any ideas on that?

Well i've had the technicians at the repair store have a look at it. At first they thought it was the graphics card, since when they plugged in a different one it worked fine. Of course, it was an unpowered one that draws power right off the motherboard

I asked them to extra check with another PSU and my gfx card. The guy was nice about it and hooked in a 750w PSU. Plugged it into the 4890 card and... success! The computer fired up no problem. I wasn't surprised, since the gfx card has been well cooled and runs at stock settings, while the PSU is 3-4 years old and is a no-name brand. Looks like the 700w is showing its age and simply can't handle running the 4890 anymore, giving it insufficient power and causing it to cut itself out.

Just running a series of 3DMARKS on it at the moment to double check the card is functioning ok now.

Fair play m8 glad u sorted it, mines also behaved for over a week since cleaning it and altering cases airflow, just hope it keeps up till next year when the 28 nm cards come out (well i hope its next year n not 2012 lol) skipped a few generations so should b a nice jump in performance :)
