ATI 5870 1GB with Jeantech 1000w PSU

I ran an i7 920 @ 4GHz and an overclocked 5870 for many months on a 520W PSU without issue. However, this was a top end 520W PSU.

I suspect your 1000W will be fine.

wow i didnt know jeantech were that bad . ive got my 700w running my rig now and have overclocked my cpu and gpu with no probs . admittedly i needed one quick because my retailer wouldnt swapout my be-quiet 600w so had to buy a psu quick while they were testing my be-quiet which is still in mt old rig . do you think i should swap the psu's around

Even if it doesnt delivery close to whats advertised (1000w), it will still be extremely capable of running a 5870 with ease.

I have the same PSU as the OP in mine, powering a GTX 580, if that's a good example.

I wouldn't call them 'bad'. But I wouldn't be comfortable with using their PSU close to their rated max output. As long the power consumption is not going beyond 75~80% it should be fine...I think.

PSU made by Seasonic on the other hand, most of them go at least 50W beyond the rated output would still be perfectly fine.

My Jeantech has died, well, when i say died, it doesnt want to switch my pc on for longer than startup now... other days it just restarted it, and the voltages were majorly drooping below normal.

I had a few jeantech psu's (storm and whatever it's big brother was) - they are quite rubbish. The box is nice though :D

I still have one in a spare pc and it is still going but I did change the fan in it because the stock one started to die after about 6 months and I didn't fancy waiting for it to go up in flames.

The box should be made of asbestos just in case it decides to burst into flames during shipping.

No seriously I'm sure it's a fine quality part but just in case do you happen to have a fire extinguisher near your pc desk? ;)
