*** ATi 5970 - In Stock & Shipping Now ***

i bet it would aswell, more expensive than i thought they would have been but if people want them they will pay that for them, good luck to who ever gets them,

Bought my 4870X2 just over a year ago for £333. Welcome to what happens when there's a lack of competition.

I've said it before...I really wish there was a single game other than Crysis that actually needed this kind of power. Unfortunately there just isn't, so what you lot are buying them for I don't know.

From what I've gleaned in reviews the performance of the 5970 matches 2x 5850s in CrossFire, and is beaten by 2x 5870s.

Considering that the 5970 is £520, and a 5850 can be had for £220, wouldn't it make more sense to buy 2x 5850s for a total of £440? Power consumption is also apparently lower with the CF 5850 setup.

Is all I gotta say about that price.

It can be overclocked easily. ITs been downclocked to stick to the 300w that the OEMs are happy with. It sports the full Cypress core at 1600 shaders each.

All in all, its better value but only for people who can actually afford and want to spend this kind of money on a graphics card.

this also allows for a half upgrade :D and it'll fit in more cases :)

At stock it is basically a 5850x2 kind of card, but it's using 5870 hardware downclocked, with the overclocking tool unlocked to allow high clocks and a new voltage regulator.

Basically overclocked and overvolted it can reach 5870 speeds and in some cases beyond that, everything about the card, the cooling, the voltage regulators, the hardware and the new software/features all point towards AMD wanting to make a true 5870x2 card but simply being power limited, for us enthusiasts we can push it to 5870x2 speeds no problem.

Has anyone seen comparisons between Ati 5870 in Trifire against Ati 5970 Quadfire ? Some of the 5970 quadfire scores look decent, but I would be interested in seeing how it compares againt 3 5870's.

Also it seems sites like Anand and Guru3d are experiencing throttling issues possibly over the vrms overheating when they overclock the 5970 despite ati's assurances aboutt his being a card suitable for overclocking. So it looks like it's roll the dice and hope for a high clocking 5970, or else go for 2 5870's.

incase anyone is thinking of getting 2 of these

heres what to expect :D

I've just read the page for Crysis. It doesn't even register an FPS when using 2560x1600 with 4xAA. LOLZ!

But seriously two of those would blow other cards out the window judging by the other FPS results for other res's.

Still like many on here I will prefer to wait a little longer to see if prices drop. I didnt get my 4870X2 til Feb this year and they've been out since June/July last year. So I am more than happy to wait that same amount of time.

Thats crysis for ya, the game that was supposed to make a ton of use of multiple cores and gpu configs, according to Cevat Yerli. Wonder how long it took him to get off the crackpipe after making that statement?

Yeah, but some reputable sites are having crashing and throttling issues with the overclocking bit despite ati's claims. So 2x5850's or 2x5870's for max performance would be a safer bet I think. Just wondering if 3x5870's would blow 2x5890's out of the water. Also every bench I've seen today showing crossfired 5890's, doesn't compare it again 2 gtx 295's in quad sli.

Think a new rig is going to be my xmas pressie.

One of these 5970's and a i7 @4ghz with water sounds like the way to go.

Will also look forward to running eyefinity at 5760 * 1200 rather than the 5040 *1050 that I'm running my Triplehead2Go at.

Wife will have a head fit about it. Normally i can change the bits without her knowing but I'll have to get a new case to fit the 5970 in so she'll see the difference there from my Antec 900.

Taff
