You'd get about the same performance, but gain DX11. You may as well wait until November and buy a Cayman based card, it should be much faster.

The 6870 is generally within 5-10% of a 5870 from what I've seen, so considerably faster.

Fixed, early adopt at any other store and the "tax" isn't included.

£25 more than another store that has stock available to sell later on today is just, not on frankly, describing it as aggressive pricing is laughable tbh.

Considering you have seemingly 100's more of the 6870 and 6850 in stock than they will, surely THEY should be the ones with a higher price as they have significantly less stock.


The problem I have with it is, if all the UK stores see OCUK selling cards to hapless idiots for £200, they all start charging £200, then when the 6850 is available, rather than £225-240 they are probably aimed at, stores will just bump up the prices again and we'll see the 6970/6950 also way above what they should be.


Whats worth noting though is a £175 6870, that is very competitive if not bang on 470gtx performance which will cost you £200, is fantastic. WHats bad for Nvidia is, that £200 470gtx is making them a pretty large loss, AMD will have a healthy profit on the £175 6870, half the size, Nvidia can't stay in business if AMD has double the efficiency per mm2.

There were people saying hours ago AMD wouldn't be competitive, sure.
