*****ATI 6850 / 6870 NOW IN STOCK AT OCUK!*****

What I want to know is - how on earth is anyone ever going to shift their remaining 5850s and 5870s?? They will have to come down massively in price to clear wont they? In which case I might be tempted by a 2nd 5850 :)

I'm hoping this brings the prices of the 5870 down so I can look at crossfiring. If I hadn't within the last couple of months bought a 5870 I'd have probably bought 2 of the 6870s.

Interested in seeing the 69xx too.

3870 -> 4870 -> 5870 -> and they decide to make the 6870 slower?

What is it with these companies. Do they purposly make it as difficuilt for the consumer to understand as possible?

Probably not.

The 6870 is slightly quicker than a 5850. A GTX 285 is a bit quicker or slower than a 5850 depending on what website & game benchmark you look at.

I've no idea how much slower the 280 is compared to the 285, but I guess there isn't much in it.

Wait for the 6950 / 6970 for a bigger performance boost.

i know. i must admit when i saw the price of the 6870 a little bit of wee came out. would it be much of a performance boost over a gtx 280?

Hopefully this will help:

Anandtech 5850 vx GTX285 comparison

The 6870 is roughly 10-15% faster than the HD5850 wheras the GTX280 is around 5-10% slower than the 285.

Looking at the graphs a 6870 would probably give you around 20-25% performance boost depending on the game.
