*****ATI 6950 Crossfire Bundle with FREE Games & 8GB USB Pen NOW IN STOCK!*****

This is mighty tempting but.. anyone know if these will work OK with an P5Q Deluxe? Rest of spec is in sig.

I think I'll be bottlenecked a bit by my CPU but @ 2560x it should hopefully be a nice step up.

Does anyone know the answer to this? I'm waiting for a website to produce an article on CPU scaling with these newer cards, especially in crossfire.

I'd like to know roughly to what extent an [email protected] will hold back 6950 crossfire. Or maybe the P45 chipset I'm on will be a bigger problem...

CF scaling with that cpu will be heavily game dependant. I would say at 2560x1600 most games should be gpu limited but there will be outliers like BFBC2 which won't run as well as others (BFBC2 seems to love a nice fast cpu over an above anything else so you would be "bottlenecked" regardless of the GPU you go for).

TBH though in most modern games you should be absolutely fine.

On the flip side though the cooler design of the HD69xx series will means the cards will be VERY close together if you have a MB with "normal" PCI-e spacing. Unlike Nvidia cards the cooler doesn't have a slightly angled cut out near the back to allow for better air flow in multi GPU configs. I havn't seen anyone mentioning of very bad temperatures but it might be something to consider.

Thanks for this - very useful info. Did you mean most games will be GPU limited in your first comment?
Anyway, I have decided to go ahead and order so I will be the guinea pig for this set up. :)

Hopefully the extra heat generated by the crossfire card spacing won't end up producing more noise than the 4870x2 its replacing. Not sure I can take another year or two of that kind of noise:D

check out this top useful info(for me anyway) taxed from hardforums

have owned 5850 crossfire, 5970 2GB, and now these 6950s.

The biggest adjustment is being able to max out AA. It makes for a far better gaming experience.

Dirt2 ran with a much noticable improvement over what I was used to on the 5970. I recall getting around 44-45 fps then (6048x1200), and I get around 55-56 now, but it seems far better than just that incremental of an improvement. I was able to max AA as well, before I was running 2X.

JC2 is night and day. I used to have to run shadows off, SSAO off, and no AA at 5040x1050. Now I can completely max out the game at 6048x1200. No hard numbers here.

Crysis Warhead is now playable at Eyefinity resolutions. Enough said. From Hell's Heart used to be a slideshow, no matter the Eyefinity res.

I don't own AVP, but the benchmark was reporting about 5 to 6 additional FPS. It was much smoother with no hitches.

Seems as if Crossfire has been improved.

Heat/power/noise? Runs just about as hot and about as loud as an overclocked 5970 (I put fans on 60% to be safe). Don't see any real issues with the distance between cards thus far.

Yes sorry GPU limited. I will change my post accordingly.

That review is incredible, 6950 X-Fire destroys the GTX 580!! Impressive scaling too. These two cards plus freebies costs less than a Gainward GTX 580, If I was in the market for a new card there is no way I would spend on nvidia right now.

6870 xfire beats a 580gtx
6950 xfire beats a 580gtx
470 sli beats a 580gtx.
570 sli beats a 580gtx

I think its safe to say that two have always been better than 1. Especially as both xfire and sli are getting really nice and mature tech.
6950 does scale nice though.

hello i just ordered a pair of these, looking forward to their arrival as it will complete my new pc :D

I am a little bit worried about whether they will work with my power supply though, is it not enough? it's 650W and says in the small print that it works with crossfire.

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-045-OK

Also on the description for the GPU it says their max output is 250 watts each, so with a bit of luck i should just about scrape not having to pay out for another power supply?

Thanks for any tips...
