Is it still possible? and more importantly, is it worth it?

I've got a 5770 with a spare 8800GTS lying about, should I whack it in or what?

I know it used to be possible (only on win7?) but is it still with the current drivers?

a kick in the right direction would be a great help :)

It not cost you nothing so do it, I know nvidia blocked the physx driver from working when it detected a ati card, you need older version/modified/hacked drivers. Unless they have reversed there ideas and the latest drivers work without hacks.

Its only worth doing (at this time) if you intend to play Batman AA.

Mirrors Edge does have some nice extra touches with PhysX and theres a couple of other games that can benefit from it/require it but they aren't that good.

How much do you reckon it's costing him then?

I'm not really bothered about the e-peen in any way. If it will aid in games then i'm all for it. electricity;heat;power isn't really of concern to me. If it was I'd be on a 10" laptop by now.

what I'm getting at is does it make that much of a difference?

The Mod above allows the latest drivers

I can't take your name seriously anymore Loadsa, I keep hearing "LOADSAMUNAY" in a thick British accent due to playing too much Killingfloor. :p

ck88; since you've got the card lying about, you may as well put it to some use, I wouldn't recommend you going out of your way to acquire a card for PhysX though.

Why not though since you've got one?

Not really no, the changes are "nice" but not game changing.

Batman AA has some um interesting physics effects with it enabled - personally I think they add more depth/immersion to the environment tho unfortunatly the further you get into the game the less its used for example in some of the earlier parts you can break individual tiles off walls/floors from damage - later on you just get a crappy decal effect.

Mirrors edge again it kinda adds to the immersion when your up on a windy sky scraper and cloth/plastic is rippling and tearing in the breeze (not just a geometry shader repeating the same motions over and over) and on impact, etc. and theres a few areas with nice shattering effects. But its not a major addition.

Theres a couple of games like cryostasis where you need PhysX hardware acceleration to really play it... but none of them are that good as games go.

While mulling it over I thought about my board: p5q pro-t, If I drop the 8800 in will it run x8/x8 (which it does in crossfire) or x16/x8. If it's the first, does that make it even less worth it?

Aslong as the rendering card is on x16 it won't make much odds... the original PPUs ran on 1x PCI-e interface speeds perfectly fine - even 4x would be overkill for any PhysX usage to date.

If you sell the 8800gts and pretend is still in the system, you will get a similar effect 9.999% of the time :)

only 10%? :p

I think I'll leave it to gather dust for now. Doesn't really sound like it's worth it with any of the games I play and I reeeeally can't be bothered going under my bed looking for it.

Thanks anyways :)

Unless you play Batman AA I really wouldn't bother - I liked it as far as it went in Mirrors Edge but most people will be running and not taking in the detail so much whereas I only played it to check out the tech really.
