ATI next gen, what and when?

R600 is the next gen one, it is a DX10 card, don't know when its due though, could be around November as its going to be needed for the DX10 stuff of Vista, like the G80.

ATI normally release on July/January.
As vista will be released around xmas for corps and prolly feb for us minions, I think January will be the R600 release date. You will, however, be crazy to buy either the R600/G80 and Vista. Wait for the bugs to be ironed out in both before purchasing... has been a while since all three companies have brought out something totally new. G80 should be the most stable as it isnt that different, but we shall find out soon enough :)

A couple of weeks back the Inquirer stated that there's a R580+ on the horizion, and it will support DDR4? Although the page has now been removed, here's what it said:
TheInquirer said:
We found out one key thing about the new R580+ chip. We gave you most of the details already, but we can now confirm that ATI's new chip can and will support GDDR4.

All cards after the R520 could support GDDR 4, but obviously the next generation GDDR 4 memory will simply work better with the new chips. The new Radeon X1000 generation memory controller has the support but obviously R580+ will have even better and more polished support.

Companies such as Samsung and Hynix have been sampling GDDR 4 from late 2005, so I guess by the time the 580+ is ready in late summer, there are unlikely to be many problems with memory shortage. GDDR 4 is a progression from GDDR 3 memory with some tweaks, squeaks and extra whistles.

Chiefly, it can work at very high frequencies. GDDR 4 should be in mass production this year. We don’t know when Nvidia plans to embrace this marchitecture but it could be with its G80 technology.
The original R580+ link (before stating that it will support DDR4)

I know (sometimes) you gotta take what The Inquirer says with a pinch of salt but, I wonder why they pulled the R580+ DDR4 link... BS maybe? Or a true leak that ATI want kept under wraps!

I think the X1800/X1900 support DDR4.... I will be surprised if they put it on the boards cos it will be very expencive around that release time. Tis just a die shrink / speed increase!

so ware not going to see anything between now and vista? :( my FX-55 7800GTX setup is getting dust on it....
