Not really, it depends on how much more/less the new cards cost to make more then anything else, if the die is bigger then prices will go up otherwise why would you release a new range of card just to replace your more profitable old ones?

I tend to think the 6000 are going to cost a lot of money, 40nm, more performance and if the die is larger prices will have to increase to maintain margins.
 
I don't even want a 6xxx series card so when they are released these will drop even more. That fact alone is keeping me from buying one right now as that 5850 under 200 is just sexy.
 
AMD are already in the process of EOL the 5850/5870, stock has been cut back all around the net, even on OCUK only have a few brands compared to a few month back, by the time the new cards hit I would expect the 5850/5870 to be very limited and therefor prices cuts seem unlikely.

Not how it works these days.

Old stock just gets phased out and disappears now most of the time, apart from odd exceptions. As such prices don't always drop.

Well then im sure you can find a way to make a 5970 disappear and reappear at my doorstep free of charge! :p

Along with one of those vaporware 3 panel eyefinity displays which seem to be as common as Hens teeth. :)
 
there is no way 6870 will cost 400 £ , it might if retailers go crazy but as we know amd still sticking with there price plan so thats 399$ for 6870 and 499$ for 6970.

so it should be in theory around same price maybe 10 ~ 20 £ when 58** came out
 
Nice prices - good to see the 5870 at a price that I paid December last year for the Vapor-X version!!! And my 5970 OC cost me a tenner more last December ..

I never had it so good with buyers remorse (as in None), after I ordered the above prices went up and up ... :D

Remember the good old days when the Radeon 4870 dropped to £120-140 from what? £350 lol

Nvidia need to keep releasing cards and adjusting there prices tbh but I bet once we get the next ATI/Nvidia cards prices will drop pronto :)
 
Back in april I managed to get sapphire 5850 non reference for £221.99 from ocuk:cool:. But why is sapphire one still costly compared to other brands. The XFX 5850 price cut has been the most impressive. Back in april they were around £250-£260 everywhere.

5870's were £350 region, so their £60 cheaper
5850's were around £230ish, so their £25 cheaper.

So its an improvement. :)

Um last month on this very site you could get a HD5970 for ~£450 (XFX or HIS model I can't remember) and more than one HD5870 for under £300 (including the powercolor eyefinity 6 card).

Why is this the current thinking, its madness. 280gtx, 15-20% faster than a 4870, 280GTX £350+, 4870 launches at £180, was that appropriately priced compared to Nvidia, no, was it a market share play, partially, was it mainly down to a fair profit based on cost to produce, yup. Was it because they can sell 500k £300 cards, or 5million £200 cards, yup.

THe 5870/5850, on launch, the 4890 was £150 ish(it was back up from its low) the 285GTX was back up at £300, so the 5850, which spanks a 285gtx badly, was priced massively below it.

AMD do not price based on Nvidia prices, or Nvidia performance, they price based on the best ratio of profit to sales they can produce, its really that simple.

6870, £300, 6850, £220-250(depends how cut down it is), new 6770(old 5850) £170-180, new 6670(probably a 5770 with higher gddr5 speeds so less bandwidth limited) £120-135.

With probably a few parts filling the gaps, 6750 around the £150 mark, a 6830 around the 200 mark, a 6650 around the £100 mark, etc, etc.

The only die likely to get bigger is the top end die, the 6770 will be a smaller and cheaper to produce 5850.
 
They won't come down till at least after the 68xx cards are released and even then they could hold the price as the suply demand curve kicks in. As Gibbo has said ati sales are still so high they have no need to reduce prices yet.

Those were deals, HIS did us basically some new pricing early at a loss to themselves to get themselves better established in the UK. The Powercolor deal was a one off, it was so good that even with new pricing it was still cheaper then, but they are unwilling to repeat a price that low again.
