Just done a re-install, and I need to install my graphics card drivers. Ive posted a thread similar to this before, but I can't find it anywhere.

Could someone help me out please?

Many thanks.

i dare say the 7.2s will score 16 more points in 3dmark06 or something.

if you want the latest fixes/performance boosts for proper games then stick with the latest drivers. :)

Previous driver releases from AMD/ATI.

I don't know much about Vista drivers though but the newest ones should be the best.

Lol - Considering I've not benchmarked since last year sometime .

Ran Bioshock, MOH Airborne, World in conflict demo and ET Quake Wars Demo on these 7.2's and every time it's been fine with no problems what so ever. So I've not got a clue what you're on about?.

The reason I said the 7.2's for XP is that from about then the driver releases for XP started sucking to be honest as ATI/AMD were focusing mainly on Vista and the X2900. I've heard the 7.5's are meant to be ok for XP too but I've had no problems with this driver set and not enough to go on for the 7.5's yet. I've asked CyberMav about certain drivers for XP on another thread but if he answers is another thing.

The 7.3's and 7.4's are meant to be crap for XP. The 7.6's some say are good and some others don't like them. 7.7's weren't meant to be the best either. 7.8's and 7.9's on XP I've not had a look around to see what the majority think about the newer driver sets.

So Marc2003. Anything else you'd like to teach me today?.

ooh touchy. :D

edit: just to clarify, maybe i should have kept quiet as xp drivers aren't my thing. been using vista for months now. but for a clean install, i see no reason why not to use the latest. :)

Sorry about that. Not been a good day today and I'm a little grouchy lol. I need to keep it off the forums tbh.

I updated my drivers all the time but I had a problem with the 7.3's I think and after that I went to find out what were other people's finding for ATI and XP and the 7.2's were the one's most talked about. The 7.5's were getting good reviews too but I feel that I read more positives about 7.2's in XP over anything else and I've happily stuck with them since.

If I knew differently (7.8's and 7.9's) then I'd change again. Vista - I've not got a clue tbh?.

Cheers JD, going to give 7.9 version ago first, but if I hit any problems I will use 7.2.

Although I can't use either yet as I dont have SP2

No problem Jimmy ;).

Even if they do work fine you can always try and bench different driver sets to see how well they fair in XP if you want to do your own research. I'd only do 6.11's to 7.9's though but you'd probably be best doing 7.1's and onwards. Some people are still using the 6.11's lol.

Not quite sure what you mean, 'bench different driver sets' :o

Im not sure if this is a joke or not, but with the :o ill assume it was a serious question.

What he means is download a few different driver revisions & then install one after the other & bench each one in turn (ie run 3DMark or other software to determine which version gives you the best score). As the latest drivers are not always the quickest for every series of cards. Sometimes older drivers are better for earlier model cards as later drivers may sometimes implement effiiciencies only intended for the newest cards.

Thanks, it was a genuine question

Iam having problems, installing the drivers. Ive tried both the 7.2 and 7.9 version and get this message each time I start windows xp and if I try to open catalyst control center.

The found new hardware wizard starts each time win boots aswell, but it can't find the drivers.

Try this & see what happens.

Run msconfig & go to the startup tab. Untick mom.exe.
Search for mom.exe on your HDD & delete it.
Reboot pc.

Don't you have to get the drivers from the Sapphire site for that card, as the pro dual is the 2x x1950's on the 1x PCB aint it, which has nothing to do with AMD/ATi, Sapphire made that, so CAT's might not be compatible, may just have to use the drivers it came with on the CD, or get the drivers from the Sapphire site, they may have modded the .inf file on their drivers to support the pro dual as they upped their 7.9's 2x days after AMD/ATi released theirs. :)

ATI RADEON SAPPHIRE X1950 PRO DUAL DVI <------ That is the thread name and I thought it was just a x1950Pro with dual DVI.

I didn't know it was actually the dual card lol. Sorry about that Jimmy1983. If I knew it was the dual I'd have pointed you in the right place :). It just looks like dual dvi to me and not x1950 pro dual. No one else picked up on that either, must have thought the same as me?.
