ATI Radeon™ HD 5970 WoW Issue?

I would check to see if your CPU is stable and running at the rated speed. It's also possible that with the bigger Graphics cards the motherboard needs more QPI/PCIE and IOH volts. Usually 5970's with i7 CPU's at stock speeds would get around 20000, and if your memory has scaled its speed back then that could explain the score of ~18000

EDIT just checked my screenshots and my CPU scored 7350 in 3Dmark06, and that dosn't include the fact that it bumps up the other two scores aswell. It sounds like you CPU may have reset itself back to stock.

How do I check my processor? Is there something I can download to monitor this?

I know there us an OC setting in my start up bios for the overclock but that's the profile it's running off.

So you def think it's the processor? Or is there anything else I could check?

You could download CPUZ and then run a program that puts load on your cpu and check the speed. Note that speedstep will probably clock you cpu down when it is idle. HW monitor can also be used to check the CPU speed and multiplier. If you are condident you cpu is stable, try running Prime 95 with cpuz in the background and check the clock speeds.

CPU-Z says my clock speed is 2698.7 for all 4 cores, is that bad?

thats when running wow btw and being in dalaran where i have the issue

Also it seems task manager seems to think my cpu is only operating at 20% capacity

Edit:

Also i tried going into my boot menu to make sure the overclock was still selected but it wont let me access my bios! O_o

i keep spamming F12 or even Del and nothing, it just carries on to windows...

i hate to tripple post but can someone answer, its worrying me now that i cant access my bios at all and my cpu probably isnt operating as well as it should :-(

Just tried F2 and that doesnt work either it seems :-(

the boot thing says its F12 but that doesnt work, tried tab too and not that.

whats cmos and how do you reset it?

You can reset cmos by taking out the battery which is attached to the motherboard. Leave it out for a few seconds or so then put it back in and then it should fire up ok.

Any chance of delete getting you in to the bios?
The good news is you seem to have narrowed down the problem to the overclock, and it is unlikely that anything actually has a hardware problem.

OCUK should be able to help you get the Overclock working again. Overclocks can fail for many reasons, sometimes (rarely, depending on the mobo) for no apparant reason. When you get the overclock settings back I do suggest you check the temps and run 20 passes of LinX at 5Gb of memory and 8 hours of Prime 95 to guarantee future stability. Aim for temps of 80c or less.

You both need to download a benchmarking software like 3dmark and run it. If you both get the same score, it's clearly different settings in WoW that you're missing somewhere. If they're different scores, something's up with your hardware or the settings for it.

we used the same settins which were max settings at 1280x720 and she got way more than me, but i cant ask her to download stuffs really, im pretty sure its my processor now and currently im in the queue to OCUK support

Im no expert but i do know your GPU is insanly top end and certainly should be raping a game like wow without breaking a sweat. Considering the price of that card im not suprised you are concerned, the only thing i can think of that hasn't been suggested is trying different drivers. A while back i had trouble with my ATI card and a friend suggested using Omega drivers and they sorted me right out so might be worth a shot for you http://www.omegadrivers.net/.

Good luck.

ok we reapplied the overclock and i get about 40fps in dala so i think it was my processor and also my realm being crowded ofc :-P

also re run 3D Mark06

26478 3DMark
SM 2.0 Score
9759
SM 3.0 Score
13603
CPU Score
6928

beats my old score by 10k though its still another 10k off the fastest system but i swear he must have overclocked it a lot! and he has a better processor

but yeah i think my issue is resolved and im sure future drivers will resolve any other gpu issues

if you have any other idead for system performance in wow please let me know
