Looking at getting a new ATI card, can probably afford the XTX but considering I will be using a HD plasma as my primary display max res 1024x1024 according to manual (correct me if wrong) will I actually notice a difference between the two cards running at a relatively low resolution? would I just be wasting money?

i woudlnt recomend getting an xtx. if you are looking at spending that sort of m oney then best to go a lilttle bit more and get 8800gts. if not the x1950 should be able to handly that res.

With the XTX, you might as well get an 8800 for a bit more, like fishdude said :). The X1950XT is supposed to be pretty good at about £170. The Pro isn't as powerful but still a great buy.

isn't the 8800 (and the XTX) a total waste of money for the display I have?

I know it would be nice to have the fastest graphics card ever ;) but is it really worth it at low resolutions

An 8800 would certainly be CPU limited on that resolution, but without knowing the rest of your system it is hard to judge if an 1950 pro or XT would be limited. I would guess that an XT would be...

going to have an E6300 on a DS3 with 2GB of PC6400 memory, hopefully aircooled to 2.8Ghz or 3Ghz, even at stock speed I would have thought the g-card would be the limiting factor.

you mentioned the xtx first :D lol at the res you quote the 1950pro should be fine. its an ideal card for 1280x1024 displays on tfts

his 256 on special at the mo

At the maximum resolution of you plasma, unless you can force a resolution of 1024x1024 (equivalent to 1164x864) in the game settings, you will be left at 1024x768. At these resolutions, an X1950xtx is less likely to be cpu limited. A x1950 pro is unlikely to be cpu limited at these resolutions.

I would get a x1950xt 256mb personally.
