Thats shocking. My bosses last two Q7, leased from new for 3 years, were pretty faultless except both needed major air suspension work. His last he asked how much the bill would have been if it hadnt been covered by the new car warranty and was told £6,200!

For me the main reason for getting a warranty on a used one would be to cover the air suspension!
Pretty much what I thought as well. However that is on the used car warranty, not the new one. Could well be a difference between what’s covered in the two policies.

As with nearly everything like this, this is mostly scaremongering and stupid dealer prices making it look scary. Mercedes is exactly the same. The parts for the Q7 air are surely the same as the Cayenne. Its an old tried and tested system - it'll break, but any specialist can fix it. The shocks are around £300 each and the same for the pump. It really isn't a big deal.

Fair enough, thanks :)
The trick is to find a decent indy in my local area. I'm taking my ageing A6 to Eindhoven (a different country!) because the last indy I found ****** up a change of discs :(

Anyway, after doing some maths, I'm looking at a facelift 55 TFSIe which will still be under the factory warranty for at least the first year or so.

I’m gutted that my car (TT Mk2) has been quoted for repairs that are more than it’s worth now. And the repairs may not even resolve the issues supposedly. :(

The dash has a permanent steering icon, and if left for a week or so, every warning light comes on until you drive it for a few miles and turn it off then on again, which I guess wicks away any moisture, and charges up the battery a bit?

I think it’s because of damp getting into the electrics/wiring, but no obvious signs (from inspections by me and a mechanic I’ve used for 10+ years) of entry are making it hard to solve on that front.

The mechanic has suggested replacing the dash pod, and if it doesn’t resolve it, then replacing the steering rack. But neither of those might fix it and it might just end up getting damp again and breaking again anyway!

Nightmare.

Had it for 8 years, only one previous owner and is in great condition mechanically and cosmetically. It’s just the damn electrics and it has been fine to drive. :(

I’ve got about 8 months of MOT remaining and then it’ll fail and that’s that I suppose.

Well into the age of electronic niggles unfortunately. It’s why the AMG went. I won’t change a car for the sake of it, but there comes a point when the cost/hassle just isn’t worth it, to me at least. Unlike my colleague who loves his Alpina so much that he’s rebuilt the engine several times :p

Yeah, it sucks!
Particularly when the second hand market is as it is and I’m not even sure I need a car apart from the odd journey due to the world we’re living in now… I think that’s part of what killed it, sitting there for so long with so little use when it used to be commuting most days.

Pretty much what killed my AMG with multiple lockdowns. Multiple parts on the car seized. I suspect damp did the rest.

I was supposed to be getting my new Q7 this month but I hadn't heard a thing from Audi. I ordered in October last year. Emailed them to ask what was going on, advised that it wouldn't be here till April / May earliest.

Managed fine using the missus A3 whilst the country was locked down, now things are opening up I'm really struggling. Got a few client visits coming up and it will have to be trains which I hate or hire cars, either way its a faff.

I kind of regret selling the S5 now :(.

Can't see it arriving before July/Aug, so considering cancelling the order and just grabbing a lease for a couple of years until this shortage sorts itself out.

Oh that sucks :(
Which model did you order?
I don't suppose you could cancel and get one they have in stock, if they even have any...

I ordered a Black Edition 55 TFSI Quattro, they have nothing else in stock other than an SQ5, which has the exact same interior as the S5 I just sold, and because it had a few other upgrades was basically the same price as the Q7. So I've said no to that.

The sales person is apologetic and has confirmed that if I cancel I will get my deposit back which is at least something.

Rubbish. Don't suppose there's any approved used that tickle your fancy? Prices mean they're probably the same price as new though. Certainly the case over here; I bought a TFSI e out of the showroom as 18-month old examples weren't even £10k cheaper.

Nah, as you say used prices are so daft that I would be paying full whack for a 2 year old car. It's why I sold my S5 to them as they offered 10k more than I was expecting.

I’m trying to get my head around this new Audi dual screen MMI and it’s frustrating.
Is there no way to get shortcuts (either in favourites or at the tip of the bottom screen) if pretty much any menu item/setting you like?
It’s possible to shortcut almost anything on BMW’s 8 buttons, but the new MMI isn’t letting me shortcut 90% of the things I want to shortcut. Like thigh support or certain menu options buried deep in the MMI, etc.

It seems crazy that I need to go to Car > Seat > swipe to passenger seat and then try to press and hold a tiny arrow to adjust the thigh support or seat bolsters for the passenger seat as my car only has driver memory. Hell, I’m still getting used to the seats so still need to tweak them slightly every time I use it, and getting into that menu on the move is suicidal.

The Audi voice assistant is useless, but that’s another matter. BMW’s got Audi beat there. BMW has a sense of humour too! You can ask her meaning of life, etc. Audi just tries to navigate you to a golf course
