Audi S8 vs Peugeot 306.

Update:

I called Helphire this morning, and they have been nothing short of fantastic. I've never claimed from anyone's insurance before, and they explained the whole process, so I'm happy to let them handle the claim for me.

I'm also getting a hire car delivered in the next hour, a Passat 2.0TDI Estate. (Due to my current car being an estate...not bothered either way tbh).

So overall, a very quick and easy process so far :)

Of course they have, they've been rubbing their hands together with glee at the very thought of taking on your claim.

That passat hire car you have will be billed to the Audi Drivers insurance at £200 a day and helphire will be taking a hefty chunk for their "fees" ripping off his insurance good and proper.

Nothing personal mate but i hate these accident management companies with a passion, when i was involved in an accident, they did the same as you, went straight to helphire. What should have been a £100 cash in hand job for a respray of the bumper as it was scratched slightly turned into a £3500 claim with £2500 of that in hire car costs alone for a fortnight.

I don't give a toss how much it costs the other bloke, my car's utterly destroyed.

Unfortunately it's not a "£100 cash in hand job" - its a "find a new car because some tard couldn't drive properly job"

No offense taken, but there's a significant difference between your previous situation and my current one. I physically don't have the time to mess around doing all the footwork for insurance companies, Helphire offer a service, I'm using it. I get given a hire car to use, someone else pays for it.

However were insurance claims settled before the days of accident management companies i wonder.

Oh well, you'll share the increased premiums with the rest of us. Just remember when your renewal comes in and its not as cheap as last year, that these damn management companies charging £200 a day for a hire car are the reason.

Something i've noticed is that insurance companies want to sell you "legal cover" with a policy, which usually £30 for them to ring an accident management company for you.

thats exactly what its for.... £30 for them to call the 0800 number for their panel of beggers

I'm fully aware of the increased cost of insurance policies, especially even with a non-fault claim on them. So its not a particularly strong arguement, examining this case in particular, is it, as my situation has slightly changed ;)

As I've stated, I honestly don't give a damn how much I'm costing the other guy, in all fairness if he can afford an Audi S8 (and an AC Cobra, as we got chatting..) then I'm sure he's not short of a few pennies.

Increasing premiums are a given, regardless of how many people use accident management companies. So continuing on what seems to be a neverending crusade against accident management companies seems somewhat fruitless, wouldn't you say?

I am giving back my 2.0 passat today (59 plate) been a nice little motor for a couple of weeks. Put 2k+ on it in that time, and just under 50mpg (fairly even mix of town and distance driving, not a lot on motorways though)

The auto-hold feature is nice, but the electronic handbrake can be annoying when you forget you have to hit the brake to allow it to be turned off in certain situations.

Cruise control was one of the best I have ever used. The car is also very comfy! I have never really driven many brand new cars. Was nice to give it a go!

Oh, and the two companies involved in my incident were RSA and More Than, and they jumped at the chance of providing me a hire car whilst mine was whisked off to be written off. I doubt they are going to rip each other off, they are the same company :P

I've never used cruise control before :o I have no idea what spec this one will be, so we'll see. Its an opportunity to try out a different car, either way :)

Exactly, I was never going to drive a brand spanking new specced up Passatt any other time in the near future!

I was pleasantly suprised by it.

But it would take some of the impact force out, and if you are pushed into the car in front, it's not your accident is it?

Maybe so, but it usually complicates the claim a tad more, and if you ever had to deal with insurance companies before you will know thats not a good thing!

I got collected by a volvo estate in a 1981 mini van, handbrake was applied whilst i was waiting to join a roundabout. I ended up ON the roundabout in a very confused state. Even though I had seen the car coming, a knock to the head dazed me a bit!

I have no idea where I would have ended up had i had no brakes applied.

your mistakingly thinking he effects him

It doesnt, the claim is paid by his insurance company. And unfortunately helphire will probably have a ton of cases outstanding with your insurance company as well, all charging stupid extortionate rates for a hire car.

Everybody has noticed the rates have gone up this year, even those without a non fault claim. The insurance companies are blaming on the rise of false claims to order, and the increasingly large number of accident management companies.

Given that my claim cost the insurance company £3500 when it would previously have cost them nothing, i can understand why.

I havent been involved in a fault claim in a while, my last one was over 5 years ago. Back then however i got a courtesy car, but one arranged by the other parties insurance company who were no doubt not being charged £200 a day ..

needing a hire car and not to be inconvenienced isnt the problem. Its the 3rd parties like helphire profiteering out of all this.

End of the day, its a business - wouldn't you do the same given the chance?

what start a business doing this, or use helphire's service ?

I certainly wouldnt use helphire's service. They only take clear cut cases where fault isnt in dispute, in these scenarios its easy to get a courtesy car off the person at fault's insurance anyway.

Just get his details at the roadside and ring his insurance co direct.

As for starting a company up that does this, i guess you probably would. Personally i think they should be outlawed.
