A friend of mine just fitted a couple of new harddrives but in the process must have accidentally given his old audigy 2 a knock as now he is unable to get it to output 5.1 audio.

So, here's the plan, he wants to replace the card with a x-fi extreme audio but keep the external drive bay majig as they cost around £50 for the x-fi version but look exactly the same as the old audigy one.

Will his Audigy 2 external drive bay work with the new X-Fi card, or will be have to buy a new X-Fi bay as well?
 
If its the external one then no it wont work as its a different connection to the card itself.

If its the internal one it will work assuming you get an Xtreme Music or Fatality Gamer Pro as the others dont have the connectors needed.

You wont be able to hook up the firewire port tho unless you connect it to a motherboard header.
