Audigy 2zs Upgrade

Hi,

recently bought into the i5 race and got myself an asus p7p55d pro board with all the other bells and whistles. Just waiting for it to be delivered. What i'm trying to figure out is if my old Audigy 2zs up to the task or is it time to upgrade...or just use the onboard sound if its better. It will mainly be used for gaming and currently if there is a lot going on the audigy crackles and distorts a bit.

Any ideas would be appreciated, thanks.

Oh yeah, will be using it with Creative 7.1 Inspire T7900 speaker system.

I am in a similar position with a Audigy 2 ZS and am wondering which is the best upgrade option.

Don't get any crackling on mine, but just fancy an upgrade.

I would think that an Asus Xonar DX/D1 would offer a decent upgrade (over Audigy 2ZS/onboard) without emptying the pocket...

yeah i was looking at some of the midrange xonar ones but i'm not sure if its going to be a noticable upgrade. I'd prefer to spend a bit more if i knew i was going to hear a major difference. I don't use headphones at all even though i think they are more imersive while playing games. truth is i just find it easier to flick a switch and have the speakers on. Maybe its time to just go all out and get a new sound card and new speakers. Hope its not a waste of money.

Is it mainly for games or music? If you want decent quality without all the tripe like EAX12.1 or effects where it sounds like you're in a church or coffin then go for a DAC.

Like an external soundcard thats just for quality and none of the gaming stuff. You can keep your audigy for games and output through DAC then optical
