Audigy or o/b ALC889A

Full height Audigy (1) card will free up some cpu cycles and provides me a firewire port - but is sound on par/better than the o/b solution?

Only have an old pair of powered 2.1 speakers so not asking to much of the sound card.

Also are there any better 3th party drivers?

You'd probably find the onboard produces better quality audio (I had the original Audigy a few years back, and I think it was rated somewhere around 90db SNR - wasn't that great). As for CPU cycles, depends what OS you're using. If using XP, definitely, but under Vista there is very little difference.

xp pro so that's good news - a was after a firewire card so the sound and extra cycles is a bonus
