in the title really.

looking to upgrade from a Gen 1 i7 920

I have 6 HDDs that need to get into this new machine. apart from that, I'll let all the other stuff go.

Audio - do all new on board sound processors have everything needed or do i need something dedicated?
Video - will be using adobe software packs mainly

any advice here?

Thanks guys.

My basket Overclockers UK:
Total: £1,491.58 (includes shipping: £14.70)

  • If you aren't gaming, I would recommend Ryzen 1700 or better. I've put a fairly weak GPU in as I don't know which video editing software you use, as they benefit differently with GPU power.
  • Large, spacious, sound-dampened case will plenty of hard-drive space
  • 32GB RAM for large image-editing and video-editing (perhaps overkill)
  • Very fast SSD for windows and other apps
  • Great PSU with a 10 year warranty

The i7 8700k would have been a great choice also, but it is out of stock and overpriced by £70+

Legend thanks for this.

I'm definitely going to go i5 / i7, just one of those trust issues things!
I reckon i can tweak that a little and get it down to close to £1000 and not lose much on performance.
Probably go for a 1060 or 1070 GPU as I'm learning GPU acceleration on Premiere works will with that range.

Tell me, what makes you guys decide on motherboards? Is there just a go-to motherboard or range at the moment.

That is a truly terrible price for the 8700k, way over-priced at the moment. The CPU cooler would allow for mild overclocks.

A Skylake-X alternative with more RAM:

The 8 core i7-7820x adds 220 to the price - quite a lot for 2 cores.

For Premiere I'd go for a 7820X and a 1070 plus 64GB RAM.

SSD for OS and apps
SSD for cache
SSD for project files and other assets

I like using Samsung T5s for footage, hook them up over USB3 and they're great.
