Since building my current system I've only used the built-in speakers of my old Samsung monitor via hdmi audio. I've now changed to a dv-i only monitor so need to buy dedicated speakers but I'm absolutely clueless about audio stuff.

A 2.1 system at around £40 will do fine, any recommendations?

Id be content with my motherboards onboard audio but Im not sure how to configure it properly or what connectors are needed for it to work. Its a MSI P67A-GD65, its audio specs are

- Chipset integrated by Realtek® ALC892
- Flexible 8-channel audio with jack sensing

- 1 x Coaxial SPDIF port
- 1 x Optical SPDIF port
- 1 x 6 in 1 audio jack

Since disconnecting the hdmi the only playback device I see is "Digital Audio S/PDIF" but I get no sound when connecting my earphones.

If I download the driver linked below would speakers work when connected to the rear jacks?

Thanks :o

If you have not installed the motherboard drivers, then that will be why you are getting not sound when connecting your earphones. If you have them installed and it still does not work, then it's possibly because Realtek analogue output is not selected as the default output in Windows sound properties.

Those speakers look decent. Microlab make some decent 2.0 speakers, and I've seen a couple of people comment on the FC330's being good. As they are relatively unknown brand, reviews are few and far between.
