**Australian Open 2010 - Jan 18th - 31st**

Excellent by Murray! :D Here's hoping he get's his first grand slam win. Don't get all the murray hate - I know he's said some things etc but I'm english and I still like him. He plays great tennis, is always entertaining to watch and is British after all.

Exactly! About time people got behind him, he's a great player and has worked really hard to get to where he is now. He never has anything bad to say so I don't know where all the comments come from.

Yeh thats what they said about Henman too didnt they;)...personally i dont hate Murray but hes an annoying little **** in all honesty...he doesnt come across all that well and its no wonder hes not liked by many.

Still a good tennis player but like Henman, i have a feeling that he will flop in the final...but who knows he may win this...if its him and Fed in the final then unless Fed has a really bad day then Murray will win...if not then i think Murray will have a pretty hard time overcoming Federer.

Except Henman never got to a Grand Slam final so it's an irrelevant comment...

Does anyone know when the Federer match will be on? I can't seem to find the times on the BBC site :/

It's on tomorrow at 8:30 am our time.

You can't compare Henman to Murray for tennis ability though.

And probably Murray has the mental toughness also to win a slam, which he will prove by winning one either this year or the next or the next ...

Let's hope Tsonga can give the Rogerer a tough match and tire him out a bit for the final !

I was following the text commentary on the BBC site and I've got to admit Murray had me a little bit worried in the first set, it sounded as if he was just a little bit too casual but much better for the remaining sets. I'm looking forward to the final now and that Murray is the first British man through since 1977 deserves some recognition.

Henman never reached a Grand Slam final though, so you can't really compare the two. The only other British player in recent memory to reach a major final was Greg Rusedski when he reached the US Open final back in 1997 when he was beaten by Pat Rafter. Murray has reached his second Slam final now and I think he's much more mentally ready than before.

As for Federer, Murray doesn't need him to have a really bad day, Federer just needs to be slightly off his best for Murray to beat him. Murray is also one of the few players with a winning record against Federer so he's shown he's got the game to beat him. I think it'll be quite close either way, with a break in each set deciding who wins.

I honestly thought he was going out as early as the first few games in the second set.

He was toiling, not sure if it was because the way Cilic was playing or if he was feeling the pressure.

Bu thankfully he eventualy woke up.

That past-the-post return, err, return, in the last game, was mental. I still can't understand how he got to it.

I honestly think Murray has what it takes to beat Federer. It doesn't look like nerves play on him as much these days, so it's purely whether he's playing at his best. Tsonga would be slightly easier, but I'd much prefer watching the best player in the world in the final. Plus it would avoid people going "Oh yeah but he never beat the best to win it" like you know they inevitably would.

ROFL! :D

Anyone seen the post on Facebook by SSN?

Half the people commented saying "NO", a quarter calling him a **** etc etc and the other quarter people saying yes. :D

I swear to god. He makes one jokey comment four years ago, and people still can't let it go. Pathetic.

Why should we expect him to support England in the World Cup anyway?

I didnt see the last few sets as I was at work - but there was a single point in the 2nd set (4th game I think) which was completely amazing and that one to me was the real turning point

Before that (unfortunately) Andy just couldnt read Cilic's game at all - but after that point it was really all Murray (on the majority of points) from there on

As everyone has been stating above you can't honestly compare Murray to Henman, is he not already more successful? Yes he is!

Henman NEVER made a grand slam final....FACT!!! Murray will compete in his second on Sunday morning, we hoped with tim but we expect with Andy! He has the ability to win.a grand slam anywhere(probably France aside) as he has all the skills at his disposal!

this is a "new" Murray this year, a more aggressive player and one who no longer relies on his impressive defensive ability, he has taken the correct approach to the year and I hope he reaps the rewards from doing so :)

Well done to Laura Robson in making the girls semi finals :)

Just seen it there Dazza, awesome make for that shot in any case, how he made it I'll never know

You watching the highlights replay too? That was the first time I saw it, Murray's reaction tells you even he didn't expect that!

Holy crap, that rally as well!

Not only that the guy who asked the question later went on to say it was joke between Henman and Murray that spilled over onto the interview. Murray make an off the cuff comment/joke and it goes right over everyones head and it is Murray hates the English.

Its the way the press make headlines out of comments such as that which everyone in turn gets behind....

Funny thing is everyone bothered about it as Tim was still around, obviously they all hoped Murray wouldn't make it at any level as a player at that time and unfortunately he has :p

I've just managed to watch some of the highlights, (some on YouTube here) and he's definitely playing some great tennis. The round the post return was pretty special, for some reason I'd always assumed that you had to hit the ball over the net for it to count but I'm not entirely sure why I'd thought that and I was clearly wrong anyway.

I hadnt seen that last bit til just now either - until today I would have thought it was a fault also, but what ever happens now AM deserves immense credit

I had also forgotten in the US Final two years ago Federer had had a days rest but AM played his semi the day/night before which makes an immense amount of difference

Obviously this time around whoever he meets on Sunday will also have a days rest so the 2nd day isnt so important, just hope the Final is worth the wait and its a great game

Oops, forgot completely, well done Murray! :D

Can't believe people are bringing up Henman. If anybody saw any of the behind the scenes programes with Tim you'll see that he's an incredibly moody & abusive middle class chump. Which is weird because Murray makes one slightly sulky comment (which was obviously a tongue in cheek joke) and knickers are thrown about for miles. Greg was also moaned at years ago because he wan't British. Just get behind them if you want them to win ffs.

Lol.

Edit - wasn't the aforementioned amazing shot a foul? I thought that the ball had to return to the opponent from a height above the net (if that makes any sense). Had the net stretched all the way across from one audience side to the other it would have hit it.

Think you are getting confused - Tim was never moody or abusive (and there isnt anyone less those things than TH imo)

As long as the ball doesn't hit anything on the way back past the post to the opponents side of the court it is allowed.

Edit: Laura Robson has made the final of the Girls Junior Event this morning as well.
