Australian Open 2011

Hardly being pedantic if the comment precicely disproves your theory that Murray is the new Henman :p

Exactly, it's the way of this forum. Rather than admit you got something wrong go on the attack instead and hope no one notices you didn't actually know what you were talking about. :p

Expected much more from Murray but Djokovic was sensational. He's destroyed everyone he's faced in the tournament and thoroughly deserved the title.

PMSL Murrays best chance of winning a major title and what does he go and do??...yep bottles it like he normally does :/....

Glad that Djokovic won the title....by far the better player...seems like Murray the poor laddie is on his way down.
So the better player won and Murray's on his way down after reaching a final? Well thought out points ;)

He's not being pedantic.

At the age of 23 Murray has achieved more than what Henman did throughout his whole career.

You can't compare the two of them.

Well, time will tell, but I've no expectations that Murray will ever win a Major, what is they say? If you not won one by Murray's age then you never will. Time and again he's fallen apart against other players in the latter stages of big tournaments. Not taking anything from Djokovic, but Murray made it easy for him. He's always had serious question marks against his mental strength and despite seeing behavioural psychologists he's still suffering the same problems.

My point about Henman still remains, despite being in and around the top 10 ratings for years he never looked like being a serious winner. Murray is looking the same.

tbh when will he get a better chance to win, if he cant beat Djokovic, hes not going to be able to beat Federer or Nadal in a final, older he gets the harder it will become.

you have the cheek to call me

I bet half you people will still call him a failure even if he does win a major. :p

"ah, but he's only done it once, the greats do it multiple times"
"yeah but he hates the English"
"etc"

Plus, I don't get why people **** Henman off either, just look at the main people he was up against in his playing days; Samprass, Agassi, Federer, Nadal... these are the best players the game has seen. It can't be helped if there's just better players around, hardly qualifies as being a failure in my book.

Copy and paste thread imo, as per the last one, as per the next one.

It was no surprise to see murray well beaten today as he hasn't really played well all tournament while Djokovic has been playing some of the best tennis of his career.
The guy is certainly good enough to win slams but he really has to sort his head out!

He is in no way a failure but is nowhere near being one of the greats. He may win a slam (personally I am doubtful) but like Del Potro etc, he will be a top player this generation but not one for the histry books. Dont care how he feels about the english either, he seems a right miserable git even when winning - could be completely wrong but thats how he comes across.

To ask the question when he's only 24 in a few months time 'is he a failure' is laughable though.

Personally it is still more to do with his fitnnes than his mental state. If he worked harder on his fitness when he was younger perhaps he would have his first slam by now.

As Djokovic and Del Potro have show in their early twenties recently it can be done - as long as you are fit enough to begin with off course.

There was signs in the semi when he looked like he was struggling physically, unless it was due to injury, but after todays match he said he was not injured.

He might even consider a few months break - strange talk.

Indeed, it's very defeatist and something he needs to sort out.

Give the guy a chance, he's just walked off court after a pretty crushing defeat against a contemporary and friend. If it takes him a little bit of time off to get himself in a state where he realises how much he wants to play tennis and win it then it's probably time well spent compared to him just grinding round the tour because he doesn't know what else he could be doing.

Well yes but at the end of the day he's not going to win all and sundry is he? There's going to be times when he goes out in the first round of majors, times when he loses in the final, and hopefully times when he wins. No matter what, he needs to pick himself up and keep going.

After all, someone has to lose in every final, and you don't see the likes of Nadal/Fed/Djok/etc. considering "time off" when they go out of a competition do you?
