Have had a quick look at the DVLA site and cant find any mention of this.
What would the procedure be to move from an auto only license to a full license?

I guess that a practical test at minimum is needed, but do you need another provisional or what? theory test?

as far as I know just another test. In a manual car. Exactly like any other test.

no you have a driving license so that is not needed. theory last for 3years IIRC so might need a new one.

best thing ring up a driving instructor, cos you'r going to need one anyway. To unlearn all your bad habits.

The reason you couldn't find any info is that you were looking in the wrong place ;). The DSA take care of all the tests etc.

From their site:

Can I use an automatic car for the driving test?

Yes. If a person passes a test in an automatic car then they are restricted to driving vehicles with automatic transmission thereafter. A full automatic licence acts as a provisional manual licence.

And also:

If, however, you want to upgrade within a vehicle category you will not normally need to take a theory test, for example, if you have a full automatic car licence and you want a manual car licence you will not have to take a theory test.

ahh excellent, the no theory bit will be the best news, now to persuade her!

haha, unfortunately she will need a lot more than shoes!

having had to buy another bangernomics motor but auto (the worst sort of banger!), i really need her to learn to drive a manual. so much more (and better) for the money :/
