On the road....
I have a clip of John Martyn in Concert, it used to play perfectly as a video.

Now, for some reason, it plays as if it were just a sound file, no video window opens in Media Player Classic ,and I just get sound.

I have updated all of my codecs - I think - but this problem persists with this clip....

Any ideas? :)

Is it a DivX? Try playing it in VLC Media Player.

Gomplayer, VLC, Media Player Classic etc etc etc, the result is the same.

Thing is, it used to play just fine as a video file with any of them!

All of my other files play just fine....

Gspot codec will detect what codec is used in the file and tell you if it's missing or not.

Cheers for that,I was not sure what codec it was and GSpot tells me! :) it reports "Codec(s) are Installed" - Its an XviD codec, XviD 1.1.2 Final

Going to see if theres any newer XviD codecs about....

Xvid 1.1.2 is the latest. You say you've updated your codecs, is that by installing a 'pack'? Some packs contain conflicting codecs and break stuff that worked before.
Only install the codecs you actually need, gspot will tell you what's required if somethings not working. Just get what's needed.

Is it at all possible that newer versions of codecs have dropped support for whatever that particular video is encoded in?

If it no longer plays in VLC or MPC-HC which use internal filters/splitters then the file is buggered.

If the file was buggered, surely I'd get no sound ? (which plays perfectly as if it were an audio rather than video file)

Try MPC-HC, it's a better version of MPC, uses internal filters.

I'd go for the 32bit version with installer.

Also, you'll need to install the dx9 updates (dxwebsetup from microsoft)

Cheers for that, been working away all week so only got round to checking up on this.... I'll give that a try. :)

Edit, it seems to now play video in DivX player which is progress, but I still only get audio with MPC, Gom player et al....

Oh well, at least I can actually watch the gig now! :D
