Avon ZZ3 vs Toyo Proxies vs Nexen N6000

None.
Although if you must be a cheapskate, don't get the Nexens, they are lethal in the wet.

Lol! Tyre snobbery at its finest! There is a difference between a good quality tyre and a premium/sport tyre, not everyone can afford or needs to pay £100 plus per corner.

There is a world of difference between a quality tyre and a no name budget job. In terms of premuim/flagship/sports tyres you just need to look at wet and dry braking tests to see the deminishing returns in cost and wear rates.

You wouldn't buy a 300 graphics card for a computer that's only used for surfing the net...

It's very sensible to shop around and gather opinions though, nexxen being a prime example of a budget tyre with a mid range price.

I had the Avon's on my Alfa GT V6 and they were brilliant. Haven't tried the others but I know from previous experience with Avon that if you get a problem their customer service is excellent. Not had the others so can't comment I am afraid.

Thats fine - and if you cant afford £100 a corner for tyres then don't run a car with large diamater posh looking alloy wheels. You can quite easily get decent, premium tyres in 14 and 15 inch sizes for much less than £100 a corner.

Not even slightly the same thing.

I'd hardly call it snobbery. I prefer to call it being safety conscious, and paying that little bit more for something that grips properly in adverse weather conditions.

Having driven a Nexen-shod Golf IV 1.4, I can safely say that the lack of grip in the wet was frightening. That was in a car with 75bhp. I dread to think what would happen something more powerful..

Lol! Nexen pretty much is a no name budget job. It's the kind of crap you get fitted to new sets of cheap alloys as part of the deal.

Exactly, I've always known them to be a cheapy brand, but some of their models are priced firmly in the respectable price range. This makes me suspicious. They have either have some kind of genious design innovation, or they have simply put the price up? If I were a gambler (or indeed worked in the nexxen pr. dept) I would bet on the latter.

I think you misread my post ;)

In my experience, your looking at about 60 quid a corner for a good 15" tyre. I think I paid about 65 a corner for both toyo t1 and eagle f1 on my fiesta, my current car is on 16s and the price is relativley more expensive, except my needs have changed, so I've gone for the rainsport2's which seem good.

If you are running 17, 18, then of course you are going to be paying a minimum of 90 quid for for something decent, talking ball park figures here.

To be honest I would be spending a lot more per corner if the car was only used for blasting down B roads. The majority of my driving in it at the moment is spend doing 75mph for 70 miles a day on the way to work with the odd blast here and there.

It's not that I cannot afford to put better rubber on, it just seemed a bit of a waste on what is to me at the end of the day a work hack (that I am growing kind of fond of :o)

I would have a set of Avon's over Vredestein any day. British made ( oopps or our some Malaysia now?), and a brilliant customer service (my own experience). Not sure how they match up in road tests but I know what I would be more confident in.

I had a some ZZ3's on my zed(when i had it), i wasnt that impressed with them. Had qute afew bum clenching moments in the wet. Ended up driving like a granny in the wet haha

...then i sold the car....FML
