Award for the worst dsl ISP goes to...

Its old technology, Virgin are interested in developing their modern equipment, not copper wires and cobwebs. If you cant upgrade then that is a shame but you can then dont complain

You will mostly only hear bad things about an ISP.

There's always a percentage who have problems and complain, as the remainder have no problems at all and compliment. The way of the world I'm afraid! ;)

lmao, but they were once a good company....

@rene.agac which pakage are you gettin?

Was gonna go for PlusNet Pro but went for Extra. It should apparently prioritise gaming and streaming anymay and 60GB is certenaily safer than 20GB. No idea how much i'm using at the moment but i do watch some programs online ocassionally and once in a while fire up uTorrent. They will allow me to monitor usage so if I find I will be consistently using less than 30GB a month then I will upgrade (standard Pro cost + £10 for 10 extra GB over the limit).

By the way, the example of the phone call is not a one off - they are always like that

I think all ISPs should cap at GB. Plusnet seems really fair in usuage vs price.

This is about the worst time of the day on my Virgin DSL connection. Bit concerned about the 2ms delay to the router, used to be less than 1

With that, you won't even see an issue. You have stats there.... which won't effect you at all with what I can see.....

optitech... thank you for your insight and advice in this thread. I now realise how foolish I was to suggest Virgin are a bad ADSL ISP due to network congestion beyond the first hop. I feel I have learned from you and would like to extend my thanks, on behalf of ocuk community, for your most valued contribution to networking sub-forum.

Well I for one know "your mileage may vary". At the beginning of the year I could have reached out and throttled the CS on the other end. They were told to lie through their teeth about the problems with the VM DSL service. VM even manipulated "speedtest.net" traffic in order to put people off. Its just funny my service was dire until my contract as up... All of a sudden its perfect...

Of course content customers do not shout about it. I am sure many would put up with a slow connection. I'd rather get what I need, rather than be pedantic about details about "what I'm paying for"

OfCom needs to bust some balls in the ISP industry IMO

s0ck, do you no how to log into the router and retrieve stats? That would be more of an indication to see if you do have a bad line. On the other hand you need to know alittle about the problem. Do you see it slowing down at certain hours of the day? e.t.c?

Just remember, this comment I made doesn't apply just to ISPs. It applies to any company in the world. There will be customers very unhappy and some very happy but you have to ask yourself why is this. I know a lot of people complain because they think they are entitled to more for what they get but in the real world this is greed.
