Best suggestion so far has got to be the air horn. Whenever they get a little loud give it a quick burst. Rinse and repeat .

Well, this seems to have sorted itself out with no real intervention required.

Apparently someone got a bit ....annoyed... at about 2am and punched the ceiling below them repeatedly while they were going at it.

Caused them to quieten down and since I have been back there, I haven't had the (mis) fortune of hearing anything... interesting...
