BA cancels all domestic flights due fog

fog pffft

as if they need vision to land a plane these days

They certainly do. Not all aircraft and crew are approved for CAT IIIB approaches. Even with CAT IIIB, they need 50m visibility at the touch down zone.

apparently outside of heathrow, belfast international was one of the few airports that prided itself in being able to land flights on a foggy day, but it really is something else here, i cant even see out of the office window, nevermind trying to spot a strip without ils!

I hope my bro can get his canada flight out this friday, he and his g/f have been looking forward to it for months!

Yer... my mate was trying to get home to Ireland and still is... I think that he is waiting in Manchester for a flight...

Aye, Aldergrove has a CAT IIIB ILS.

All international flights should be OK but expect delays as we normally put on flow control in these conditions. In the worst case, diversions to other airfields are likely too.

Anyway, I'm off to work. Even with the cancellation of all these flight I doubt it'll be an easy life. Easy and Ryanair will still be operating full at full tilt I suspect :p

EGAE have been cancelling flights all over the place which doesn't bode well for me getting to England for Christmas. I'd best head up to Tesco's and get a turkey just in case :(

Typical, I've got nearly 2 weeks off work and EGLC is also suffering from cancelled or delayed flights.
In my job that means I'd get to sit on my arse doing nothing for longer than I would be anyway :p

No such luck with cancellations at Easyjet, off to work soon to fly to Malaga, and if its too foggy when we get back, we just divert miles away wherever its clear enough to land. Yesterday we were set to go to Edinburgh instead of Bristol as no other English airport had a forecast good enough! Love the day off due to the weather.

Thanks for the heads up Scuzi. Just called my mum who is at work in London and was supposed to be flying home with BA tomorrow. She is in a BA office, and hadn't heard anything until I told her! It looks like she'll have to get the train home tomorrow, as even if all flights are back by the evening, they'll all be stupidly busy and I don't think her ticket is confirmed.
I really hope she can get home tomorrow, as we're supposed to be spending Friday together :(.

Do you work at West Drayton?

I'm in Stockley Park for those who know the area, less than 2milles from Heathrow. This morning the fog was really, really thick. Visibility was about 15metres. Has subsided somewhat now, but still no more than 80m vis.
