I had a custom watercooling setup on my old Mobile 2500+ @ 2.5GHz.
Used to run 40°c idle and 45° full load with very low noise levels... not to mention it looked uber in a case full of cold cathodes. Used to get loads of comments about it from my friends.
Now, I'm back on air (stock AMD cooler ) with an Athlon 64 2800+ 2.1GHz. It currently hits 54°c after a few hours of Prime95, and the noise levels are just annoying.
Hoping to get back into watercooling after Christmas, when I'll have a nice case to fit it all into.
I've gone from water to air, then back to water. With air, the internal temps are high because the cpu and gpu heatsink fans just circulate the air inside the case. Also case fans with good cpm are required to remove all the hot air inside, this creates a lot of noise. With my watercooling I have turned the external fans off and the loudest thing is my psu at the moment.
I'm lucky enough to have 2 pc's, one Air cooled one watercooled. Apart from the better temps and noise volume of the watercooling setup I would love to go back to air as maintenance/upgrading is so much easier with aircooling. Temps and noise prevent me from doing so though.
