Back to the BBC Micro

i'm also having a retro blast, though nowhere nearly as retro (i'm replaying Tachyon: The Fringe)

Awesome! That brings back memories.

Don't suppose you've got Repton Infinity for it, have you? That was a game ahead of its time; arguably the first game seriously built for modders.

Hiya. Yes, I did have Repton Infinity. Sadly though, it was one of dozens of disks that have vanished from my parents' loft. I'm going to ask them if I can have a scour through for lost disks on the off-chance that they kept one of my boxes of disks up there. Just gotta wait for a weekend when I can come and visit them.

Yes, Infinity was great, as you were able to use Reptol (play-on-words with Cobol) to modify the gaming code. Then there's the graphics and map editor likewise with the Repton 3 engine.

Yes I remember them well, I used to play on them at school in the early/mid 80's.

I didn't have one at home at that time, just my beloved Speccy. I do remember friends programming on them in thier lunch breaks :)

P.s - Elite was cool, although I didn't play it properly until the Amiga came out.

Haha amazing, that brings back some memories of primary school! There was an adventure game that I used to love on it but can't remember the name at all. There was a witch in it.

Edit: remembered...Granny's Garden! 100% getting an emulator and playing that right now.

That was a class game! While it is legal to play emulated games, I think the software house for Granny's Garden (4mation) still have copyright. They have continued the franchise for the PC and they still sell the BBC game either on disk or as the emulator file.

Oh the memories...well done you!

Watch the first 30 seconds of this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=drE5cHe6c3s&feature=watch_response_rev

I remember Shift Break Break Shift, a Turtle at infant school and a moat / castle building game during junior school. Then the Acorns arrived which slowly replaced the Micros.

I used a A3020 (had first choice in computer club) at secondary school and they even had an old green screen Amstrad in the library. The Acorn was the first ever time I used a CD-ROM drive - you'd put the CD into a plastic square tray and insert in drive. RISC OS was great.

I just signed up here to ask you if you knew the name of said moat/castle building game - I just had a bout of nostalgia myself and been googling for this with no joy!

I would've PMed but PMs have been disabled for some weird reason.

"the 30 somethings" .... ? I'm 23 and i remember them well enough thank you :p Though not that well....main thing i started on was acorns

What a great nostalgia trip, nice one. My friends had a BBC and I was sick with envy at Elite, would find any and all excuses to go round theirs.
Snapped it up when it was released on the Speccy. Then it was their turn for envy when tribbles would flow down the screen :D
