Hey all,

Basically I admin a WoW guild website that was created by someone else before I came along. Due to some bad feelings currently running with the original creator (relationship issue with another member) we feel the need to move the hosting before they rip it down and delete it.

The site comprises of two parts, phpbb 3 which has a backup table option and a dkp board which also has a backup option.

Sooo my questions are -

1) Know any good hosts free/cheap to move to that will support it quite happily.
2) Is anyone aware of what I am likely to lose in terms of layout/mods from the move.
3) Any other preparation I should take apart from saving the site banner.

This is in the event we don't resolve the issue through talking with them. :)

Cheers,

If you're worried your current host will delete the site I'd make a full backup asap - would personally ftp into the site and copy everything onto my comp. Would then get a database backup too.

Would also check who owns the domain name, as if you move the site you'll need access to this.

If this person only has bad feeling towards one person in particular, I am sure he would be willing to cooperate/assist in transferring the site to new hosting. If he was kind enough to supply the current hosting I would think he would be considerate towards his guildies and friends. It may save you a lot of worry and what-ifs if you just talk to him about it.

Having said that, I have no idea what he is like and may well actually be an ******** about the whole thing. :p

What is your current host using as a control panel?
If its something like cpanel you can do a complete backup on your current host and if you get some hosting at somewhere like TSOHost or Vidahost (from these forums) you can then restore the backup to the new hosting.

Not sure if the likes of TSO or Vidahost do it, but other hosts I use will do a server to server transfer, all you need is the website URL, current username and password.

They can plonk it into WHM (how they control the cPanel accounts)and it will drag your account across with less hassle and in minutes - you don't have to lift a finger :)

Hope that helps - by the way, the two hosts mentioned here are recommended on the forums by a lot of people and it will cost you around 15 quid a year I belive. Only mentioning the cash side of things as I know how hard it is getting cash out of guild / clan members!!
