Hey guys, pulled a 2.5" 120gb SATA HDD from a dead HP G6000 laptop and need to back it up, pulling off the fins adapter that it connects to the laptop with reveals the standard L shape connectors, will I need to get a 2.5" enclosure to access this because of a different voltage, or will connecting it straight to my desktop PC just like any of my 3.5" drives be safe to do? Read conflicting opinions about fried drives etc.

Just want to make sure as I have only ever built/used desktops and have no clue when it comes to laptops and the laptop isn't mine so don't want to fry it and lose their files.

Thanks

If it's a standard SATA drive then you can plug it straight into your desktop.

There are a few wacky laptop drives out there, mainly 1.8" ones, which have slightly different SATA connectors because they need a 3.3V supply but these are designed to prevent normal SATA connectors being used. So if the cables fit the drive should be fine.
