Sorry for posting this, but I wanted somewhere to get stuff off my chest.

Back at the beginning of August my Dad noticed a lump appearing in his nostril. He went to the doctor who said it was some sort of ulcer, but would make an appointment with the ENT consultant at Warwick hospital just to be on the safe side. After a **** up by the admin weenies there, the appointment was cancelled and moved back until mid September, a week before they were due to go on holiday . When he went, the consultant did a biopsy and said not to worry, go on holiday and the results would be back when my parents got back after 2 weeks.

When they got back last week, they went to the hospital only to be told that the initial biopsy was inconclusive and they would have to admit him into the day unit so they could take a deeper one. He went back in today to get the results from that biopsy.

Turns out it's actually cancer, which is what we were all worried about. Fortunately the doctor said it is treatable and it isn't aggressive, but it would be a big job because of where it is.

We should be thankful that it's treatable and not spread, but I'm still just sat here shocked to the core. When I heard the word "cancer" I just felt like the world had stopped momentarily.

thats such a shame mate but look on the bright side, if they say its treatable thats great news. GL to your dad and i hope all goes well.

If you need a place to vent/get reassurance post back and we will lend our ears :)

I'm glad to hear your dad had the minor consolation of it being passive and treatable, but I recognise the feeling. The word has a weight of its own - like slipping at the pool, landing on your rear and winding yourself. Obviously, wishing your family the best.

When my dad got diagnosed with cancer a few years back, it took the doctor about 2 more sentences into his explanation before I fainted. It was such a surreal feeling but I just felt the world spinning then my legs gave out - the word cancer really does have an impact.

I'm pleased to tell you that my dad is now free of cancer after a major operation and is currently happy visiting me in Australia so all the best and good luck.
