Poll: Bagpipes - anyone actually like the sound of them?

I like bagpipes, both traditionally and implemented in an interesting way (i.e. KoЯn).

HOWEVER, listening to bagpipe practice must be quite different

Yes think they sound great but it heavily depends on the occasion if they are suitable or not. Think they are amazing for special occasions.

It depends, from a bit of a distance i.e. a full pipe band in the Tattoo or a piper at the rugby and it's amazing. Walking past a random piper on Princes Street - not so much.

I love the pipes and aww man the pipers in princess street are what makes it epic when shopping

I've got a recording of the 48th Highlanders playing Amazing Grace on the bagpipes and I must say it brings a lump to my throat. Played well, it's an amazing instrument.

All my Scottish family think they are an embarrassment, they are all happy to go to weddings in kilts but not ever have the things played! Hateful instrument

Typical English distaste of anything Scottish. There is nothing like the pipes to stir the soul of the Scots, absolutely stunning when played amid mass pipes and drums.

Not much at all, though on occasion they have been a slight source of amusement, comedy programmes etc.

I like the sound they make.

At the cenotaph every year, a lone piper plays while wreaths are laid and it is very poignant.

Also, the best way to stop a mass brawl between Scottish lads is to play Scotland The Brave on the pipes over a tannoy. They all stop and stand to attention.
