Bahamas has 5x murder rate of Texas??

Pretty sure Scotland (Glasgow specifically) is still murder capital of Europe (someone correct me if I am wrong) which is pretty dire TBH

I believe that it was technically only Western Europe, some of the Baltic states might have been/still be higher. You're right though, it is pretty dire and it's often alcohol/drug related with from memory most of it done with knives.

These rates are calculated as per 100,000 population. When looking at rare events such as this, places with small populations (such as US virgin islands: pop 108,000) will be over represented in the stats as compared to Texas (pop approx 24 million). The total numbers for 2009 would be USVI ~ 52, Texas ~ 1000.

Yes, granted, but it still means you have a higher chance of being killed in those places than places with a lower/100,000 population....
