Bahrain GP Cancelled

There are so many epic tracks all over the world that F1 passes by.

The new one in Portugal, Imola, Laguna Seca, Qatar, Motegi, Brno, Magny Cours (I liked it), Fuji, etc etc. All capable of hosting F1 yet they keep going to purpose built snore fests with no character in countries where nobody is interested in F1.

I mean seriously, Bahrain, a track in a desert in the middle of nowhere with 2 grandstands and no motorsport culture gets a race, while Canada, a track with history, atmosphere, and a racing culture with hundreds of thousands of fans has to fight tooth and nail to keep its race.

And now we hear the Australian GP might be under threat as the local MP doesn't see the benifit in it.

But its ok, we can go race in Korea, on a flat track in the middle of nowhere, where nothing happens....

:(

Was really impressed with Webber's comments about Bahrain the other day. Nice to see a sportsman that could see beyond how the news affected him, and showing some actual concern for the people there. :)

It was alternating with Suzuka, but i think now it's just Suzuka.

Surprised they still go to Japan with there being no Japanese companies involved anymore, well not Honda or Toyota anyway
Sort of, they only went back to the redesigned Fuji for the 2007+2008 seasons and then were going to alternate starting from 09 (Suzuka) onwards. Toyota pulled the plug on Fuji for 2010 cos of the global recession. We'll have to see what happens in 2012 as I believe atm there isn't an official contract for the Japanese GP, rather it stay at Suzuka anyway.

I don't think the weather has helped Fuji's cause much either.

Nor the track really...

I thought the official line what that Suzuka would fulfil the contract on its own (the best solution as it would be a real shame not to go there, it'd be like not going to spa or monza)

I like the comments by James Allen..

"The circuit is good, better now that they have taken out the silly loop they added last year to lengthen the lap and which never worked."

okay, so the circuit is good bit could be skipped, but the rest is quite accurate.

They're planning to postpone the race not cancel it afaik. Can't see it being removed from the calendar.

It depends a bit on who's in charge a few months from now. It's perfectly possible that the Crown Prince won't have any authority and a new regime may have no interest in F1.

I said before the weekend it would be too risky to race - but it wouldnt be right anyway

Melbourne always felt like the right place to start the season anyway so Im glad (although Im really not happy about waiting two further weeks for some proper action lol)

Not sure where its going to fit in the calendar if its to be re-scheduled (given the time frame to get things out there and back)

Doubt it will have the finance to bid if the King leaves. The people want hospitals and schools more that an F1 event.
