Bahrain Grand Prix 2010, Sakhir - Race 1/19

That was one of the most boring F1 races I have watched in 15 years. Definitely the worst opening race.

Simple steps to success:

- Get rid of Bahrain as a circuit
- Stop playing with the rules ALL the time
- Encourage overtaking with practical things like 'boost' buttons (one of the few good things from A1 GP)

I hope it's not like this all season long.

I kinda agree.

The big thing and only thing :p that KERS brought to F1 was the overtaking at the start and on some long straights, which made is really unpredictable at times and therefore interesting..

Anyway, if Monaco is boring then I'll shoot myself.

Shame Bahrain is such a boring circuit. I do however feel gutted for Vettel, he fully deserved that podium spot. If only Massa didn't have such a bad start he'd be up there :( would have won me some money :(

Bit more here - http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/82145

Agree about the tyres being too hard wearing.

Exactly! This is the point I was trying to make before the race!

As long as you can bang round on the tyres for 25 or 30 laps, and do a whole race distance on the hards if it wasnt for the 2 compound rule, it will be boring.

Bridgestone need to make all the tyres much softer and grippier. I want tyres I can push my thumb into when they are warm that last 15 laps if you are hammering it, but reward you with 1s a lap advantage! It needs to be at the stage where pushing tyres vs saving them makes a difference of atleast 1 pitstop.

Plus, all that extra mechanical grip wouldnt be affected by any aireflow or bad turbulent air, so would help the overtaking problem.

Reduce aero grip, increase mechanical grip, and produce large differences in cars pace based on strategy (in this case, tyre saving/pushing hard) and the problems will be solved.

I don't need to add anything to the boringness of today's 'test' session, as I see it, but, regarding the TV feed:

Why was there hardly any pit stop timing?

They've stopped displaying who a driver drives, for, which for the start of a season with so many new teams is quite important!

Bahrain - Wow, get rid of these crap middle eastern commercial 'races'! Or at least make some nice scenery!

Get rid of all this rubbish limits on what you can do with tyres, engines etc. Am sick of hearing drivers being told to save tyres, save engines etc etc. Ruins the racing!

Bring back KERS

Reduce aero, increase mechanical grip. They seem to be doing the opposite!

HRT Racing - they should have been allowed to race today.

Well done to Lotus for getting 1 car to the end.

Infact, just simplify it. Ditch the 2 tyre compound rubbish and just give everyone the supersofts for every race. Thats a quick fix.

And then Bridgestone can go away and develop some even softer ones that work well at high temperature while being pushed hard, but deteriorate much quicker.

They should make 2 pit stops compulsory. Then everyone won't have OCD about saving their tyres.

Banning refueling was always going to have a sour effect like this. It just means all the action happens at the start and end of the race.

If it wasn't for Vettel's spark plug today, F1 would be even more embarrased by this race.

It doesn't help that it was Bahrain. Which is always a procession. The first race of the season should really be something more exciting (er, Australia?) because it sets up the TV viewership for the rest of the year, potentially.

Aye, really hoping the next race is better. It really seems a lot of teams were using this as an extended test - eg seeing what the tyres were like etc. Button saying he now knows he can push the tyres more.

But then everyone would just stop at the same times again.

There needs to be something so that some people 1 stop, other 2 stop, others 3 stop.....

Like a variation in fuel loads maybe? :p

All engines designed to be too powerful, mechanical grip being the factor which dictates speed

All chassis' and bodywork the same

Aero designed to aid those in the slipstream

That was supposed to be racing? All I saw was a precession of cars being told to hold back and save the tyres. What a total an utter farce. If I wanted to watch stuff like that I would just go and stand on a motorway bridge and watch the traffic.

Last year they nearly had it right but typically the FIA messed it all up again. Luckily they don't have these rule makers in Motogp.
