Yeah, I'm used to Merc sand-bagging, but watching all of the Bahrain test sessions, as a 'package' it seems to have too many rough edges compared to RB and Ferrari.. The aero novelty seems rather unknown, the understeer in the car was quite pronounced. I'll be happy to be wrong (and often am!) but I didn't get the sense of it being a sorted package that was just slow due to the engine being turned down, looking at straight line speeds on faster runs, the Merc was not down on top speed, which implied (to me) that it was struggling in the corners compared to it's main protagonists.

Honestly I hope one of the mid-field teams surprises us and I think Ferrari maybe deserve a run at it this year, gone are the days of Ferrari International Assistance so I'm OK with them having a crack at it.

Sad to hear about Seb, he has such a great demeanour these days. Let's hope he recovers quickly.

Still, Hulk has done a fantastic job every time he's jumped in as cover. He'll have 3 practice sessions, so I expect he'll be ok for the race. Dani Ric will be in a similar position given the lack of running time he's had.

Oddly it appears that Saudi Arabia has dropped almost all entry requirements in the last few days

Similar to the UK then. I think an increasing number of countries will do so over the spring despite the relatively high number of cases still.

Yes it was said somewhere during the many hours of testing broadcast a) these cars can't/don't like to be hustled. They will reward a Jenson Button type driver b) kerbs risk damage, and aren't going to help them time wise.

Due to stiffness of suspension and fact any damage to the floor will massively effect downforce and therefore lap times, I think eveyone will be staying well away from the kerbs as much as possible.

Again due to the way downforce is produced now, cars will be faster than previously in high speed corners , similar or slightly quicker in medium corners, but comparatively they willl be dog slow in slow corners.

Breaking for slow corners will be a lot earlier, and a lot lighter, so we will have to see if there is much chance of overtakes under breaking.

Personally I think we will see a hell of a lot less wheel to wheel bumping, i think someone lurching down the inside will get given loads of room.

Again any damage to the edge of the floor will mess your race totally, so no one will be wanting to get close to anothers wheels and car risking damage.

Wonder how long it'll take Max to learn this. :D

Just hope for some close racing throughout with varied strategy choices.

Haha first DNF from getting too close to someone else, I hope, in the nicest way of course :p:cry:

Judging from pre season testing, I do think the racing will be a lot closer, following should be a lot easier and overtaking will be.

However strategy wise, I think the larger delta's between tyre compounds will create some headaches.

Difficult to tell as everyone was running different fuel loads and engine modes etc, but does look like many of the delta's could be upto almost half a second, quite an increase from previously.

So maybe after 20 laps on one compared to next level up, could gain you up to maybe 10 second lead.

This could create fun at Albert Park, as for the very first time Pirelli is not sending consecutive compounds, but is sending C2, C3, and C5, so a double size delta between soft and medium (so to speak) for that GP.
