Balanced Diet

Can't beat a good old bowl of porridge oats for breakfast, swilled down with a glass of freshly squeezed juice. Forget the tea

your friend is an idiot

you need a minimum of calories (even if you do nothing all day long) just to maintain healthy brain and bodily function

Pretty much lacking in everything you need for a healthy diet. If she wants to lose weight the best thing is to eat small meals, often (obvioulsy not snacks), and do some exercise!

Frankly if that's day to day diet then she should be worried as that's bordering eating disorder. Being a vegetarian is not an excuse for low protein intake although more shockingly for one there's just no decent vegetables or fruits in sight. I'm assuming she's a small build lassy and since she eats cheese how does she feel about the rest of dairy?

Things like eggs for breakfast or maybe even a glass of milk with some toast and jam would do nicely (as yoghurt too), with some fruit on top of that soup and bread for lunch. For dinner there's all sort of choices such as vegetable versions of the usual dishes like lasagne to more "specialised" versions (I'm not a vegetarian so frankly not that clued up) but she really needs to make sure that she has at least 3 solid meals a day. For snacking in between again, things like fruit and vegetables would be great as would various nuts (depending on taste) as all contain plenty of good stuff.

Does she have loose teeth? Do her gums bleed?

Lol, lot of over-reactions in this thread.

For a start, I very much doubt that this is her diet every single day, 365 days a year. Secondly, she is eating fruits and vegetables, getting fats from the cheese and good fibre and a small amount of protein from the beans, it's hardly the worst balance in the world.

I wouldn't want to eat that for a long time, but as I say I doubt that's all she eats, however I can't see a lot wrong with it from someone who literally has no calorie expenditure above what's needed to simply maintain the body.

You honestly see nothing wrong with essentially having cheese, jalapenos, 2 slices of bread, half a tin of soup and half a tin of beans over the course of a full day? (This is coming from someone who also just eats maintenance calories...I guess thats relevant lol)

And since we're being told this is her diet, i'm guessing she's looking to maintain it.

if however this is just today, then fair enough, I mean today i've hardly eaten a thing but i'm hungover

This is really an exception day! I would probs have a bit more if it was a gym day, just felt sick today. Yeah, normally would have a bowl of alpen for breakfast with a glass of oj, but went for tea to settle the stomach. Since I'm short and don't burn a lot of calories unless I go to the gym, I don't think I should be having bigger meals than that because I put on a lot of weight. I would normally have a side salad with the meal and usually make something fresh for one of the meals rather than getting something out of a tin.

Well if she's worried about gaining weight then I'd split the meals into smaller and more frequent portions (6 a day is the rule of thumb), of course when I say meal for someone of small build that could even mean a handful of nuts or small salad pack (well even big ones would have few calories).

Yeah, as I suspected, everyone got excited before the full facts were known.

I would have headaches and feel tired all day if all I had was that.

No vitamins or calories at all barely. Wholemeal or white bread? Why nothing solid for breakfast? Please don't say she is on this a lot?

If she has this to keep thin then she is going to seriously damage her metabolism and the second she eats "normal" or anything processed, she's going to gain a lot more than she lost. Even by going back to a healthy diet probably.

Knowing in measurements what you have everyday is not really a good indication.

I might seem a bit harsh but I have seen two friends go into anorexia and it all started with very controlled eating since they couldn't manage to avoid everything, they just cut it down to the bare minimal to get by in a day.

Meh.

Wait, what... No they're not. You have a sandwich for your dinner then? You must have a serious calorie deficit! :p

Dinner is had every day, your biggest meal of the day, tea is had if you haven't had lunch because you ate dinner at lunch time!

breakfast

dinner (lunch if your posh)

tea

tea is biggest meal of the day.

Did you know there is ~24g of sugar in 1 tin of beans... which based on the rda of processed sugar of 60g then its an incredible amount. (and they arn't exactly truthful on the label as they show the rda % based on 90g - which is actually 60g refined sugar and 30g natural sugars)

This links in with the other thread about obesity in the western world, people just dont realise what they are eating most of the time with all the salt/sugar/fat levels in pre-processed food.
