Band of Brothers or Pacific?

Both are really good, but The Pacific jumps around between characters/divisions a lot, where as band of brothers focuses on the same guys throughout which makes it easier to follow and you get more attached to the characters.

I found the pacific improves substantially on second viewing, some of the later episode are really good. Especially if you have read some of the books its based on.

Band of brothers is obviously awesome, but I cant help thinking it is a bit 'clean cut' after watching the pacific.

BoB is based on a brilliantly written book telling the unbelievable true story of one companies jouney from training through to the end of the war. The changes made for the series are minimal and it shows, to be honest if a set of screen writers had written the story as a work of fiction the directors would have told them to go back to the drawing board and come up with something more believable.

The Pacific is based on two not particularly well written total disparate books and the unpublished story of another marine so the screen writers have had to do an awful lot to try and make it into a coherent story and it shows. Sadly the way the US Navy broke up the marines after basic training and then reshuffled them midway through the campaign made it next to impossible for something like the BoB story to emerge.

Both good TV series but only as good as the source material which in the case of BoB is one of the most amazing stories ever told.

I'm watching the pacific at the moment and really enjoying it.

However, BoB was a cut above any TV series I've ever seen. It really is one of those once in a decade shows: Great acting, great story, good characters, and strong emotions (man tears at the end quote).

BOB is just fantastic, start to finish, Pacific, I don't even think its good, theres an episode or character or actor in there I liked, but for the most part, it really wasn't good. High budget, pretty in terms of filming and what not, but the character interaction, which is what makes BoB what it was, just isn't there, at all.

Why they did it I really don't know, they should have picked probably another campaign in Europe, or whatever really, the Japanese/Pacific conflict is just brutal, its too brutal to have the lighter hearted bits that helped build and portray the characters. BoB made you feel exceptionally bad for the guys going through it, Pacific just built up the guys as almost monsters that you didn't really care that much for.

The other thing was the attacks/assaults, the action in Pacific was poor, again techincally accurate, well shot, woo, but it was basically either stand firm and shoot at tree's then see a pile of dead bodies, or hide in a mud puddle behind a hill , mortor something, shot some civies and then Japanese run at you like psycho's.

The one more open field thing they did, the attack on the airfield felt, wrong, it almost entirely focused on a the American's, as in, 90% of the action was American's running at camera's.

I don't know if they were going for a specific style, wanted it to be ultra brutal, or wanted the characters to be hardened soldiers.

Start to finish BoB is epic, great cast, great characters, great writing, great campaign, great stories, great battles, great emotion, good pacing, good understanding of how bad things got, and showing a lot of the lighter moments, the training, and the chilaxing after the war was won.

Pacific was poor stories, poor characters mostly, only really 2 or 3 great cast members in the whole series, poor pacing, poor battles, and thats about it.

Your sig is FAR too big.

/on topic.

Band of Brother is one of the finest shows to ever grace a screen. It's outstanding, and I don't think it will be bettered.

The Pacific is not, but it's still a very fine television mini series.

Just my two cents :)

Pacific was poor stories, poor characters mostly, only really 2 or 3 great cast members in the whole series, poor pacing, poor battles, and thats about it.

How long did pacific spend with that guy either having a romance or being in the hospital, you could almost say he was only character that took a lead role in the movie :o. If i wanted a romantic drama to fall asleep too i'd watch BBC

BOB brilliant, Pacific turned into a party and romance show while skipping years of action before finishing with all the best bits at the end.

Too much boring love dove rubbish in the Pacific and in general I really didn't care about the characters.

BoB is gripping though and reallyneed to watch it all back to back :D

Agree with the above, they took something which is fantastic and then ruined it. There were 3 episodes of Pacific which were largely pointless. I don't mind characters being developed especially soldiers but later theatre just wasn't done that well.

I think also the fact that Europeans study our own theatre of WWII more than the Pacific might have been why it was harder to get into. I found myself Wiki'ing a few of the early episodes just to get the back story. It'd be interesting to find out what American viewers think of both in that respect.
