Bands who write the most pretentious/meaningless lyrics?

Anything by McFly.

My other half likes them, indeed she grew up with them, but man, their lyrics are meaningless tripe written by a bunch of immature boys who have no idea what real life is.

Seems to be a lot of music hate lately on these here forums :(
Also seems to be a fair amount of Muse hate lately too.

Every band/singer whatever has crappy lyrics from time to time.

On from the Futureheads Decent days and Nights:

This is a brand new problem, a problem without any clues
If you know the clues it's easy to get through

I mean seriously what ?? I still really like the song tho :p

I hate this band. Could someone please explain what the hell their lyrics are all about?

"If you catch a criminal, there's nothing you can do but play cops and robbers" WHAT???? Surely you're playing cops and robbers in the process of hunting for a criminal? Winds me up wildly, stupid *******.

Also, pretentious and meaningless are not at all the same thing. The Des'Ree lyrics are meaningless, but hardly pretentious. Muse' lyrics are pretentious, though often meaningful.

Pretentious just means you think it's cleverer than it actually is.

I always thought 'oh tell me why, do we build castles in the sky' was utterly meaningless and just weird, but later found out that it's a psychological term used to define neurotic and psychotic people - and then it kinda makes sense :p

The Killers.

Are we human?
Or are we dancer?
My sign is vital
My hands are cold
And I'm on my knees
Looking for the answer
Are we human?
Or are we dancer?

This is philosophical, what it means is, are we separate ( do we make our own decisions and do stuff ourselves) or do we follow an organised schedule/pattern (follow other people, like keeping up with the Joneses)

Oh come on, how is it not Radiohead? :p

I've hilighted the most offending bits:

Airbag said:
In the next world war
In a jackknifed juggernaut
I am born again

In the neon sign
Scrolling up and down
I am born again

In an interstellar burst
I am back to save the universe

In a deep deep sleep of the innocent
I am born again

In a fast german car
I'm amazed that I survived
An airbag saved my life

In an interstellar burst
I am back to save the universe

In an interstellar burst
I am back to save the universe

Pull / Pulk Revolving Doors said:
There are barn doors
And there are revolving doors
Doors in the rudders of big ships
And there are revolving doors
There are doors that open by themselves
There are sliding doors
And there are secret doors
There are doors that lock
And doors that don't
There are doors that let you in and out
But never open
And there are trapdoors
That you can't come back from

Morning Bell said:
Morning bell
Morning bell
Light another candle
Release me
Release me

You can keep the furniture
A bump on the head
Coming down the chimney
Release me
Release me
Please........
Release me
Release me

Where'd you park the car?
Where'd you park the car?
Clothes are all over the furniture
Now I might as well
I might as well
Sleepy jack the fire drill
Run around around around around around....

Cut the kids in half [x3]

The lights are on but nobody's home
Everybody wants to be a
The lights are on but nobody's home
Nobody wants to be a slave
Walking walking walking walking...

The lights are on but nobody's home
Everybody wants to be a
Everyone wants to be a friend
Nobody wants to be a slave
Walking walking walking walking...

What a load of absolute crap :D

For the record, I think Airbag is an amazing song, Morning Bell is passable, but Pull / Pulk Revolving Doors..... oh my :o

Thanks! It's probably fair to say I get philosophy in most circumstances. But I still don't get this (your explanation is fine, just reading the lyrics back baffles me!). Fail :o
