bank transfers and pay into anothers account at bank

Do you need to provide a name for such transactions or just sort and account no's?

The last transfer I did all I needed was the sort code and account number.

I have always given my name when people ask for bank details to make a deposit and I always ask for a name when making a deposit myself. Lloyds TSB ask for a name of account holder if doing it on-line too.
