Sorry wasnt sure where this would be appropriate, so please move if its best in another forum.

I have some spare parts kicking around that i could sell, and i'd like to use bank transfer, like much of the other members.

I've never had to make or accept a bank transfer, so i was wondering if someone mind explaining the basics for using a bank transfer as payment for items.

I could use paypal but for some reason the last time (about a week ago) my paypal wouldnt let me add funds, and i vaguely remember an email a while back regarding something to do with it needed to updated blah blah blah.....

Logged into paypal and cant figure it out, so its gonna have to be bank transfer until i can close and reopen a new paypal.

So can anyone just run me through the basics for a bank transfer, sounds dumb i know, but never had to do one.

Get their account number and sort code (or give yours), then go down to your bank and pay 'x' amount to 'y' details.
IF you go to their bank it's instant.

Ok so say i sell for example a graphics card for £40, you'd then pop into the bank with my account number and name and make a payment for that amount?....

That simple?

Lost my login details when one of my drives played up, amongst lots of other stuff.

I'll ring them and get the details again....... but....

I'm most interested in how it works if i'm the seller, ie. someone needs to transfer me money. At least till i can get another paypal account up and running.

You can either setup a paypal account. I have paypal and an old account with no money in it that I use for public transfers.

Simple, you give the buyer your bank sort code and account number. They transfer money using those details, either on line or over the counter. It's quite safe, unlike PayPal, which has a bit of a bad rep.
