Right, I am currently with RBS and the branch is being brought over...

I want to find a new bank, normally I would have just stuck with the same branch and be done with it. But it's time I really took control of my own money.

So, I need a bank with excellent online capabilities. Such as setting up my own DD's or standing orders. Able to create and tie accounts all under one login. And generally have freedom to move money without issue between the accounts.

I want to be able to have all my DD's coming out of 1 account that also has my pay going into. I then want a standing order/DD coming out of the account into a seperate account which I will use for my spending money.

The DD account would need to be high interest as I will take only what I feel I need from the DD account going into my spendature account. Leaving several hundred spare, but this fluctuates each month so a savings account is not feasable. Already got one anyway...

Hard to explain, but if anyone could help. Please do so. Thanks.

I moved from NatWest to First Direct and I'd never go back, the online and phone banking is so much better with First Direct and you don't need to carry that stupid pin pad thing around.

I've been with Nationwide for ~5 years since Barclays started messing me around with standing orders, haven't got a bad word to say about them! Their online banking is great and the customer services (which are in the UK) have picked up within a minute on the few occasions I've needed them :)

natwests online system is fine but the interface is a little basic looking

nationwide however is very well layed out and simple to navigate between accounts and very easy to make transactions and set up payments

Out of interest what do you use the branch for?

With internet banking and less and less cheques I have not steeped foot in a bank in at-least a year.

I often go into my local branch simply because the online banking is so restrictive. The only issue is, I get amazingly fantastic service in branch! How ever, moving to online functionality will be bliss.

Avoid Natwest then, same online system as RBS.

Nationwide is average online banking, system is little slow to show debit card payments, unlike RBS which is very quick.

Natwest on-line banking restrictive???? how...

I've been with them 10 years done everything online ever that a home customer could dream of.. If you are a business customer then i have no idea so maybe.

I have chosen First Direct :)

Plus, 1101 people say good and 75 say poor... 102 (think) say ok.

Money savings expert site :) Best rating out of all the banks.

The benefits are great.

I will add that Halifax is currently fairly market leading if you like to keep your day to day banking all in a single place.

£5/month reward on the current account
£5/month reward on the attached mastercard
Market leading instant access linked saver @ 2.8%
£50 joining bonus.

I am with A&L because they gave me £100. They have been fantastic in the year and a half I have banked with them. The internet banking side of things is excellent.

Good choice! The biggest advantage I found over NatWest was being able to call and getting straight through to a human, my local NatWest branch were awful and never answer the phone. The operators you get through to at First Direct seem to know what they are doing no matter what you ask.
