Just wondering if anyone has ever gone abroad over summer and got a job working in a bar or anything, me and a couple of mates are thinking of doing it this year as some of us cant afford to go on a proper holiday.
Are there any websites that can set things up for you, or is it simply (like ive been told) just get a flight out to your destination and ask in some of the bars if they have work over the season.
Has anyone off here done anything similar? Seriously considering doing this this summer from like end of may to end of aug.

Thanks
Rossi

It depends where you are wanting to work. In the EU then yes fly out and ask around. If you are heading further out and need a work visa (Australia especially) you really need to secure the job before you leave.

Met a girl last night who is doing just this in Tenerife...Apparently she is going through quite a reputable company, who basically once you fly over, sort you out with work once you're there, as well as accommodation. Ill see if I can find out a web address for you

get into it early, most jobs are gone by the start of the season from what i remember. jobs will come up throughout the season, but lots of people will want them.

Heard its hard and you need a lot of money, you need to impress the bar managers and the apartments for bar workers is expensive and cramped.

yeh well we're pretty much thinking of just bailing as soon as our exams are finished at uni. Will be like end of may hopefully.

Don't forget that it is not a holiday, you will be working unsocial hours and catching up on the sleep during the day.

i speak english and basic spanish. My friend can speak english, advanced french and basic spanish.
We dont have any relatives really abroad, the only ones i have are in Australia, but i dont want to mess about with Visa's and things.

Its easy to do. Just fly out to your destination. Guessing you are thinking of one of the nightlife places such as Malia, Ayia Napa etc etc. Try and book some place to stay for a night or 2. I just booked a B&B for a night.

Have some cash before you go out like £300+ as you will prolly have to pay for your flat a month in advance. First day your there go round looking for some place to live. Just go in shops/any bars that are open and ask if they know anyone with flats to rent. Most do, where I worked we paid 400 euros a month between 2 of us, the earlier you get out there the better your flat will probably be, but look about and dont accept the first dive you get offered.

If you want to get a job straight away just go out on ya first night and ask in all the bars. Unless you hit the season early bar jobs are harder to get, but PR jobs are plenty as people leave/get sacked all the time.

Expect around 25euros a night. Hours usually start from about 8 and finish between 2 and 4 depending on the bar/club/destination. Its a great experiance and well worth doing, your meet loads of people and be in the sun all summer =)

Yeh, kinda been wanting to do it for a while now. Pending on uni exams (i only have one) should be leaving may time if all goes to plan, we dont know were exactly though, my mate suggested Kavos as he'd been before. But i dont know yet.

Work the ski season, far more fun

Am definitely doing it at some point.

:Edit: ahh you have more time off in summer, makes more sense then :p
