So, last week having a shower, the bath cracked across its width. There was some chip board underneath to I presume support the bath, but it split thus making the bath weaker, hence the crack last week. I managed to clean and dry the bath and put some Gorilla tape over the crack so we could at least have showers whilst waiting for a replacement. Its not leaked or anything so, props to Gorrila for their great tape.

I called a few places to get quotes for bath and fitting etc. posted on local FB groups too. One plumber contacted me from face book, got a few people suggesting him so he said, get a second hand bath (people sell cheap when they have had bathrooms redone etc) and he will fit it. He sent me pics of his previous work all looking good. Anyway, hes carrying out the work tomorrow for me. hes collecting a second hand bath for £30 too. All in all he said £100 plus cost of bath. yeah ok, crack on.

I have just received an email quote from a plumbing company in Derby I called and spoke too last week. £1770 for same work. WTF!!

does your house insurance help ? not sure how they differentiate wear and tear, versus unexpected failure.
We rent and the landlord will pay us when we give him the bill. I know the landlord were on good terms. Pretty sure he would scoff at £1770 for a bath fitted a bit like me when I saw that quote.

I suppose the prices depends on how much work is required to make the bath sit flush with your existing set up. Without seeing pics its hard to see what the price could be but it sounds like the plumbing company is on the extreme high side.

Its just a simple job of taking one out and putting one in. The pipe work is sound, taps will fit. We will be decorating the bathroom during the summer so we are not bothered about it being flush with existing tiles etc as they will all be coming off.
